One of my favorite Elfman score's from the BATMAN days. From the soul searching opening titles to the frenetic action cues and hair raising choral pieces - this one stands out as a vintage Elfman. Look forward to this superb expanded and remastered set it deserves.
It's been ages that I've seen the movie (back when it came out), and don't remember much, except that it had David Cronenberg in a surprisingly large role as creepy Dr. Decker, that was pretty cool. This sounds like an interesting release.
I'd forgotten the old MCA album is quite short, compared to nowadays. Roughly 43 minutes score and a 4 minute song Country Skin (by Elfman/Boingo). I wonder if the whole thing will fit on one CD?
It's not one of my Top whatever scores by Elfman, Chris, for what it's worth. It's got some decent stomping percussion monster and mysterioso music and it's certainly not bad overall. But it's not up there with stuff like SOMMERSBY or ARTICLE 99 or BIG FISH or EDDIE SCIZZ and whatnot. It isn't one I revisited often, but that could be cos the film was dross. I have a mate though who considers it the best score Elfman has ever written. I am curious to see/hear what the Intrada expansion offers.
Playing it now. The old MCA album still sounds pretty good and it's much better than I remember. Lots of early readings of NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS in there and similar to DARKMAN too. God, Elfman was on fire back then!!
How great can it be if you haven’t listened to it in ages? I’m curious since I’m unfamiliar with this score.
I have many great and favourite scores from yesteryear I haven't listened to in ages. I listened to them so much back then, they almost became ingrained in my spine. So these days, I tend to spread it out more so they won't lose their impact, and so that they become more like a 'visit with an old friend' when I finally put them on. For example, I haven't listened to my alltime favourite soundtrack JURASSIC PARK in probably 3-4 years, at least not in full. NIGHTBREED isn't on that level, of course, but I remember spinning the CD regularly when it came out, when my collection wasn't so big and there wasn't so much else to listen to with instant access online.
Excellent! Now I have to pull out the blu-ray edition with the "Director's 2014 Version" of the film to see if that version altered the score in any way or if it reinstated cues or eliminated cues or... This film seems to have a fair number of versions!

Thanks. I’ve never heard of the movie so I’m curious to the soundtrack. I guess it’s a horror film?
