Seven loops, but it's less than 19 minutes? This has to be the scammiest CD I've ever heard of.
If the game had it's own soundtrack release back in 89, this would be it. If you want to argue that Limited Run could have fit more TMNT games onto a single CD I would totally get behind that. But as it stands, I'm happy to be getting anything and what we got is very good release of the first game's music.
The standard is two loops by the way.
For more modern games maybe, but not for this. A single loop of 'Level Theme 1' lasts for only 15 seconds. Two loops would bring it up to 30 seconds and a fade out to 35, maybe. Games released almost a decade later would have music that would last up to a whole minute or more on a single loop. A 'Two Loop Standard' works for that length since there's more music to work with. In TMNT's case, having 15 seconds of music looped 7 full times is still shorter than most video game loop music would be if they were looped twice.
Another positive point of this release is that the material's presentation is suitable for editing, so you can rip the tracks and edit them however you want.
I got mine yesterday and it’s a nice package. I have distant memories of playing this one at the time and I’m sure it’ll tickle something in my brain. The real money is on the arcade game/NES 2 release for me - an all-timer.
I think any of us who are nuts enough to buy these scores are aware that they’ll be short albums- so I don’t think it’s really valid to call it scammy. It’s either worth it for you or it’s not, and based on this company’s business model they don’t have to gamble on how many people it’s worth it for - which is pretty cool for them.

TMNT for the NES was one of the most challenging games I played. I got it on the same Christmas that I got Super Mario Bros. 3 and I remember my sister and I noticing that we were in a new era of gaming graphics when we saw both Mario (While under Star Power) and the Turtles doing flips in the air when they jumped. That blew our minds!
But the game itself is VERY unforgiving. Enemies respawn the moment you walk the screen back by a single pixel, some platforming mechanics are straight-up lies (You can't jump across a small hole in the ground, but you can WALK over it), and some later-level sewer jumps just block all progress. Do I dare mention the Dam level? Two words. Coral tunnel.
If the game had been slightly retooled with better jump mechanics, it likely would have faired much better with gamers and critics alike. Also, maybe there would be no coral tunnel or respawning enemies.

That's right on what I was expecting. I just love that the original game got it's own dedicated soundtrack release. That's just astounding to me!
And Limited Run HAS done terrific work with game soundtracks. #1 still goes to the remastered Comand & Conquer set. Here's to the next releases living up to this release!
I don’t know or care what the industry standard or tradition is - any album should be edited with an emphasis on making it listenable. I’d rather a track loop for a few minutes than fade out at half a minute. How dismal would this release be with a bunch of 0:30 tracks.

It just seems crazy that people are going to pay $18 for an 18 minute CD that doesn't even have more than a few minutes of musical content. And then release a bunch more when they easily could have fit multiple on one CD.

Well the one time I ordered for them, they turned out to be lossy transcodes -- both of the discs. Of music you can get FREE (still can) on Bandcamp in true lossless.
And then they turned around and just shrugged it off with a "we don't refund soundtracks" when I contacted them.
The cost is more than worth it minute wise and there have been similar releases in recent years for short programs on CD, or even mini-albums - like the Game Sound Museum series in Japan which I have a few - Super Mario Bros. 3 for example.
Film scores, like Strange Way of Life got a release by Quartet for a similar price, as they felt it merited a CD, I wholeheartedly agree.
You comments about LRG quality are 100% valid - and I'm sure that cost them some sales, mine included - I could not trust buying any of those CDs for those reasons. But seeing how well these were done I may attempt to find a couple of them.
Agreed. I like the music and the way it's presented on the disc, and I'm the target audience, so now that I have my disc I am over the moon about this release.
...though I will admit that the later entries in the series are my favorites, and this release gives me hope that they'll be treated right. Really looking forward to the Arcade Game and Turtles in Time, and completing a whole set.
Just got my shipping notice for Fall of the Foot Clan and The Arcade Game! Super stoked for the latter especially.
Also, oddly, preorders for Hyperstone Heist aren't up on LRG despite Radical Rescue closing out on Sunday. According to the release trailer we should be getting Hyperstone Heist preorders this month and Tournament Fighters next month to close out the series.
Interesting - my shipping notice only included Arcade Game!
I’ve been popping in and looking for the next release as well. Seems like they send a marketing email every day or two though, so I expect it won’t be a surprise when they drop the next preorder.

Edit, now I got a ship notice for the other one.
LRG seems to have their shipping SHOCKINGLY together here. If I had known, I would have combined more orders to save shipping--their usual feckless ways mean that a product that's ready may be delayed six months while waiting for its shipping buddy item, so I always order every item separately and just eat the cost.
Mine both came today. Nice packages. Already submitted both to Gracenote, dreading dealing with Discogs’ interface to hand-enter all the tracks if anyone wants to beat me to it!
