I don't often trust Lorne Balfe with scores but he has a few bangers under his belt (the aforementioned Tetris probably at the top of the pops) and he did really well by Faltermeyer with the Top Gun: Maverick score. This first single release was fantastic. Can't wait to hear the whole album and the music to picture! I must admit I was very harsh on this movie upon the first trailer but the subsequent trailer was a much better sell. I just listened to the full score via a friend. Its not Faltermeyer level, but pretty good throughout. Some synths overly digital and thin sounding, and on some tracks no bombastic snares, but overall considering the movie landscape, its a nice change to have some synthesizer music. Some Bhcop 2 themes are reused, as is a brief snippet of Shoot out theme.

Yesterday I get 14 tracks, the total album is 41 minutes (I think there may be more score in the film). I didn't listen to it in full, but I listened to all the tracks for 30-40 seconds. I will say that this is not bad. Balfe is far from Faltermeyer. It's a shame that Harold didn't scored the film. Yes its a shame Harold wasn't involved. His last score in 2010 "Cop Out" was very well produced. The new Axel F remix with the saxaphone is pretty good!

I just watched the film and it was pretty good! Yes, it was pretty good. Only thing i noticed was ending seemed a bit quick, and they could have had more screentime of all three together (axel, billy and taggart) I noticed a few score tracks that are not on the official release. The pointer sisters neutron dance also sounded like it was re recorded. The car scene of all three sat together from the first trailer was also not in the film.

I've listened to the album on streaming twice now and generally enjoyed it. Balfe definitely did a good job integrating the original Faltermeyer themes. The music works even better in the movie, which was shockingly good! It reminded me a lot of Top Gun: Maverick in how they handled the main character's legacy and acknowledged the passage of time without harping on it. While the plot was fairly predictable, I appreciated how it wasn't a carbon copy in the way the plot of BHC 2 was a copy of the original film. I rewatched it a few times now and the score works really well. There is definitely a few score tracks that are not on the released compilation. I think the look of the film is top tier, a mix of part 1 and 2. For a first time film director, Mark Molloy did an absolute stellar job. Its a shame "Axel's return" is only in the end credits, i was assuming that was in the film during a scene, would have worked great during the truck scene towards the end. Also the "Cunrow & harding" Axel F theme is not in the film either if i recall correctly? The end shootout score was very good. Good choice of synthesizer sounds. Would love to see more films using this type of sound.

Wish we knew if Lala’s release will include more music. Don’t want to purchase the download if so… wonder why they are holding back on its release details when it’s on iTunes already. Was wondering about this myself. Was a tad disappointed about the short album run time. Though curiously enough a comment was made on Bafle’s post about this score on this very subject and he replied “people last time said the album was too long! Now its short!” Or something to that effect. And when I said “oh I love long albums!” He said, “play it on a loop”. So that there makes me think, “thats all folks.”
