Audio differences between 2 disc and 3 disc set please?
The old 2-disc edition from 2012 was built from incomplete sources of varying quality, since the full scoring masters were inaccessible at the time. It lacked some overlays, film takes and unused material. Film stems were used to patch certain missing sections.
The new 3-disc edition has been transferred, rebuilt and remastered entirely from the original analog scoring masters (except for two song demos from a DAT). The difference compared to the old edition is more dramatic in some tracks than in others, but it's an improvement across the board!
Ha I almost wrote you directly to ask you about this two weeks ago, so hello!
Thanks both for this information and to Jeyl, if anyone decides to do a comparison with the 2 CD set, please post here.
A few days ago I realized that the running time of the score portion only of this new 3-CD set basically is as long as the complete 2-disc set... then I have read the infos given here by the producers and now (as an owner of the 2-disc set and having been on the fence about buying this new release) it's an absolute no-brainer for me.
I very much look forward to getting this as a Christmas present from my SO.
It is such an unbelievable joy and a thrill to hear the complete battle music at long last, and in such stunning sound. What a marvelous release. Congrats to the whole team at LLL -- you absolutely nailed this one.
Been listening to this set nonstop since I got it. Amazing how good it sounds! A Huge thank you to everyone involved in the making of this set!! An absolute treat!
This is definitely far better than the original two-disc release. I've only had time to listen to the score presentation. I'll delve into the alternate material some time this weekend. I never cared for the songs, so I only have the orchestral score ripped to my computers.
From what I've heard so far, the sound is much fuller, and the score itself feels more complete. I have zero regrets about the double dip. It was definitely the right call--just like upgrading from Intrada's 2-disc Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves to their 4-disc version.
Glad I purchased this along with the others the minute it went on sale. I finally got a shipping notice today!
I used to wait a minute or two before purchasing and that hasn't worked in my favor. I just got my hands on two "temporarily out of stock titles" from Intrada - Hollow Man and The Ghost and the Darkness
i ordered my copy as soon as it went on sale and I have not had any news since. Guess iil cancel and re-order when and if.
If you ordered it through La La Land Records your order will be shipped as soon as possible. We are not taking any NEW ORDERS until it comes back in. We have accounted for every order we received until it was cut off and they will all be shipped before we close Dec 19.
More units are coming in late December early January.
It's been pointed out to me by a friend that the Prologue (extended) and the alternate Prologue (cut 11 disc 2) are 1/2 step higher than in the previous releases, B rather than Bb. Any explanation for the pitch change?

The original soundtrack version of that cue was sourced from a 48k digital source that was incorrectly resampled to 44.1k for the cd which altered the timing and pitch. The new cd is correct.
You can compare to the Boston Pops recording of that music which matches the new cd.

A technical error in 1991 led to the cue being saved at the wrong speed on the album master. The 2012 LLL set took the track from the album master.
The track "Prologue (Alternate)" on that album, "Prologue" on the 2021 rebuild of the OST album for Mondo, "Prologue" and "Prologue (Extended Version)" on the new LLL album, the actual teaser trailer that was in theaters in 1991, and an SDSS demo reel, all play the music at the correct speed.

Thanks to you and Jason for the information concerning the Prologue pitch.
