We have some very good news and some ‘not-so-good’ news.

Let's start with the ‘not-so-good’ news: The printing of the book is going to be delayed. One of the reasons for this is that our bookbinder is stopping work during August.

The good news is that the incredible quality of the project has attracted the attention of a publisher who is keen to handle the distribution of the 4 volumes.

We had always wanted to self-publish this work in order to retain our creative freedom and to control every stage, but we strongly believe in this new collaboration because the publisher has a deep love for James Horner, and he wants to leave us in charge of the content. So an obvious connection with him has emerged. This new step seems logical given the fantastic human adventure that this project represents.

This collaboration will allow me to concentrate on the creative part of the project, while ensuring professional management of the logistics, a necessary condition for printing and distributing books internationally.

Consequently, while the publisher sets up the new sales procedures, distribution of the book will be postponed until autumn 2024. Pre-orders will no longer be available. Books will be printed before they go on sale and shipped internationally at the time of order.

I copied this from a mail I received due to my pre order of the book. Hope this helps!

I hope the professional publisher and distributor will reduce the price a little bit... It should be aware that the current price is way too high for a book.

Does this mean that the costs will change?

And, consequently, does that mean that any pre-orders were overcharged?

I've been on the fence over this. I was going to pre-order but this last-minute change of publisher has changed my mind. I'm going to wait it out and see what happens next.

It seems that the dates around it have changed anyway so...

Generally a bit confused.

At this point, you have no choice. Pre-orders have been discontinued.

Jean-Baptiste, if you are reading this, I implore you to consider pursuing a lower price point for this book. No one is questioning the value of your work. However, as it stands, this is a book for the very rich. If you have an opportunity to work with a different publishing house, please reconsider making this appealing to Horner Fans of a wider economic cross section.

Is the any chance of an e-book release with the new publisher?

I saw the earlier rationale, which to be honest, I found quite baffling. As others have stated, ebooks for one provide easier reading for the visually impaired. I received the PDF sample, and that sample certainly provides all the visual, emotional, and cognitive experience I need. And all I want to hold in my hands is my trusty Kindle Oasis, with the added bonus that I could take it on vacation with me when I have more time to relax and read - and listen to music. I don't mean to be negative - this is a massive passion project, but it just seems you're reducing even further the small niche market of people interested in such a book. And of course, any e-book would presumably and hopefully cost a fraction of the current price of the physical book.

"There’s no digital version, no black and white version.
I’m offering you the most beautiful object possible.
I see it as a visual, emotional and cognitive experience that deserves to be held in your hands."

Much as I'd love to have the book, the price is beyond me. A digital version would I am sure ensure a wider following.

Any updates? I know there has been some delay or something with the Volume 1, but I just can't find the specific details anywhere...

.....

ok... found all the available details in JonesIndiana01's post from July 12th.
Any updates since? Or any estimate when the pre-ordered copies might be ready to ship?

This now seems to be a recurring theme with composer books - the excuses pile up and then no responses. Gentleman, this is not a good look.

It seems evident that unless they are given large print runs for a big, mainstream market, books are inordinately expensive to produce, especially if they are as ambitious as these Goldsmith and Horner projects seem to be. Perhaps they are just simply unfeasible, economically, for a niche audience such as us.

Personally, I wouldn't object to a simpler, text-only print on demand book such as can be ordered on Lulu.

Thank you for your interest.

Rest assured, the project is going wonderfully well. The quality of the book was already high when I launched pre-orders in June, but it will be even higher when it is published.

My publisher is going to take over the communications, and I think he will do so in the next few days. He'll be writing to all buyers, to JHFM patrons and to everyone who subscribes to the book newsletter.

Is there a way to order this ? The website doesn't appear to have that option...

Any update on this? A few days has turned into a month and I’m getting a bit on edge as much money as I plunked down on this.

I met Jean-Baptiste at Ghent and he said the first volume would be out most probably in the beginning of 2025. I can confirm that the book seems to be a labour of love with lots of photos and insightful, detailed text - judging by the sneak peek the author showed me on his laptop.

Jean-Baptiste sent an email half an hour ago with current - very positive - information about the book. I suspect he will post this here too.
