Also worth pointing out that the eventual retail price of the CD will be a bit higher (Intrada charged $23 for The General Electric Theater). Leigh is offering a price break to people choosing to back this now. And the shipping cost is just to reimburse the expense of mailing these out, of course. Unfortunate how much that’s risen over the past few years, but out of his control.
9 hours after launch and already two-thirds funded. This has also just surpassed the backer number the 2nd GE Theater campaign received during its full 30 day run.
Back this and get the CD a month early, but pay £16 postage (more than the cost of the CD itself). Or wait and order it when it's released, alongside a number of other titles, and see that postage cost drop significantly
I have the same "problem" Perhaps it might be possible for Intrada do add the CD to some larger order next year...
but still.. import fees and other related extortions are getting ridiculous! (I had a package with a single CD recently for which I didn't pay a dime, yet I was being forced to pay roughly 25 USD fees for nothing just into the pocket of these fucking thieves so I had to refuse that package)
I am thinking about changing my pledge to support the project without any reward or just download version and then get the CD from Music box at a later date - yet that would mean missing on other rewards as virtual sessions access and pdf scores...
I am very suprised by the issues regarding the final cost of the CD that would be just over a few $ than expected or not, shipping/custom fees included.
The main issue of this Kickstarter campaign in not that much to get the final product in hands...but to fund the preparation, the recording sessions, the mixing and the mastering...in a single word to get the whole project do happen in the first place....without it there wouldn't be any product to deliver, even digital only.
Getting the physical CD as final product through the crowdfunding campaign is great but actually just a bonus/reward.
And overnight this has now passed the 142 total backers of the third GE Theater campaign, and is soon to surpass the 152 backers of Leigh’s original Bar Mitzvah of Major Orlovsky campaign. With almost a month left to go!
Just taking a mega quick break from an orchestration project to pop on the board to say a big THANK YOU for supporting the latest Goldsmith campaign! Running for just one day and we're already well on the way (72%!) to reaching the target amount (just €3841 remaining)!
If that does happen, it will unlock the potential for a third (mystery) score to be added as a stretch goal. More details about that will be released as-and-when...suffice to say, if you enjoyed the GE Theater scores, you'll likely appreciate this one (I CAN say that it's another TV movie)
The Thunder of Imperial Names is not a TV movie…or even technically unreleased (as long as you don’t mind it being a fine arrangement for wind band). And the full “1489 Words” which it’s from is probably my #1 Goldsmith grail for a new recording… but it’s a radio program.
Since Leigh has revealed that this is another TV movie, the options can be narrowed down pretty easily (unless we could every Playhouse 90 Goldsmith scored as being arguably a TV movie).
This is one where I really hope the original recording turns up some day, because all the weird acid jazz stuff for the serial killer would be tough to re-create I suspect. No, the stretch goal score in question is another one which mixes jazz with modernism, albeit in quite a different way.
Somebody actually did guess the correct score earlier in this thread (but they listed off 3+ different guesses at once...only one of which I shot down, I think).
Ligts Out is not accessible - unless someone got a copy of the film from the archive or written scores are available. Bracken's world - no idea if either scores or "movie" are available anywhere.
