Whether you meant it this way or not, I think it's unfair to frame this as [the late] Vangelis being "uncooperative." It seems he just felt that his music should play as an album, and not (as so many of us want) as a slavish recreation of the film version.

Exactly, which is why I love his soundtracks so much. Between the OST and the 3CD set (and a myriad of unofficial releases), BLADE RUNNER is well represented, as far as I'm concerned. It's the long list of COMPLETELY UNRELEASED Vangelis scores I'm interested in, and hopefully the Vangelis estate will open up a bit more in the years to come.

Isn't Vangelis another composer who doesn't want to cooperate with the specialty labels?

Unlike so many here, I'm not a huge fan of Blade Runner, but I do respect Vangelis's feelings on the matter.

Regardless, every label producer here is well aware that it would be a good seller. So as polite as the "PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE??!!!" is, it's not about that. They would if they could, I have no doubt.

No, its not "unfair". He prevented an expanded release many wanted. I meant what I said but thank you for critiquing my opinion. All the same RIP to an inventive composer.

"Exactly" what? The OST has dialog all over it and the "unofficial" releases are not only unavailable to many, they're unofficial.

Happy New Year, everyone!

We hope all of you had a safe and wonderful Holiday season.

The monkeys are back at work and doing their best getting orders out. We ran out of Goldfinger, Man with the Golden Gun and Jurassic Park 3 over the holidays but have more coming in on Monday. We apologize for any holdups you may be having getting your orders delivered, but we did put a disclaimer on the emails and the website about possible delays. Please be patient as we work diligently packing everything up and shipping it all out.

Speaking of Goldfinger, the 90 day window is now up and ALL the fine online stores can carry this item. The way ALL of these BOND cds have been selling I wouldn't wait too long to snatch them up because these will be selling out.

On Jan 15 we will be releasing 3 NEW titles...to be honest, these 3 titles were initially scheduled for BLACK FRIDAY but seeing how insanely busy things were going at the end of the year we opted to delay them until 2025.

For you vinyl buyers, THE GODFATHER LPs are finally being manufactured (for you ASMR enthusiasts, stay tuned for a "making of" video our good friends at Waxworks will be uploading regarding the pressing of the vinyl). We hope to start shipping them late January...early February. We shall keep you posted.

As for the rest of the year you'll just have to wait and see what we have in store for y'all!

MV

Hey thanks for the heads up man.
Looking forward to whatever this years offers are that happily separate me from my dough - Bond Vinyl, more Harold F ??, Black Friday leftovers...
Last year seemed like an endless supply of riches so send thanks to those flying monkeys.

I didn't mean anything personally, Solium. It just seems to me that "uncooperative" suggests a difficult personality. I happen to believe artists should be allowed (even encouraged) to present their own work the way they feel best suits it. This is not a negative, it's a positive.

There are a lot of assumptions and guesswork showing up here.

As far as I'm aware, all the "rules" being quoted about Bond release limits and quotas are made-up nonsense.

It's probably more a case that you simply can't do everything all at once.

We don't even know for sure that releasing on anniversaries is an immutable rule, or just a way of adding pitch sizzle and narrowing down what to do next.

(When I saw "we", I mean, of course, everyone except the true industry insiders like MV.)

If we go with what we actually KNOW versus all the things people are inducing and assuming, then we have NO basis whatsoever for ruling in or ruling out that there will be more Bond on Jan 15.

So, let's just wait and see.

I would like to pick up on one comment from MV about declining CD sales. That's depressing. It makes me feel like what's happening now is one last gasp before the whole boutique soundtrack thing comes to an end. I hope it's not so.

Cheers

I'm not into Blade Runner either but I think we should take care not to dismiss others' desires for definitive, comprehensive releases, and remember that if Williams' original feelings about soundtrack releases persisted, we wouldn't have complete Potter, Jurassic, etc.

Both LLL and Intrada have redone various sets due to locating new sources or some extra music, and of course the demand for new SW sets is palpable. It's far too simplistic to say that because 95% of a film's score is released in some fashion, no one needs a definitive set.

As for this batch, I have a few hopes based on anniversaries and composers who are active (in the expansion world), but who knows....

Unfortunately the EURO currency never came back to it's pre-Finance-Crisis level and so USA-imports
became quite expensive (at least) here in Germany and I have to pass on certain releases that
I otherwise would have bought.
And it also does not help that titles which I would buy, like OCTOPUSSY, are not available.

Yeah, this was the thing that stood out to me as well and was saddened to read. I think we all should be a little more appreciative over the titles that do get released, instead of bitch and moan about the titles that don't.

As a EU customer this hobby has gotten quite expensive over the last few years (rising shipping costs, € vs $), making me more selective of the titles that I buy but I do still try to support the Labels as much as I can. I do hope the future isn't as bleak as MV's post might suggest.

I totally agree with Stephen and Randy. Like Randy, I too have been quite selective in the past few years and try and buy in bulk to save on postage and I shall continue to support the labels where I can. I have always have been and continue to be appreciative of all the hard work which goes on behind the scenes in getting the titles out to us.

I bought TWINE 007 from the 007 store in 2019. It cost 25 pounds.

2024 - Moonraker cost 39 pounds from the same store.

20 to 25 pounds for majority of the last decade was fixed, but in the last four years the prices have gone through the roof for Europeans.

007Store are thieves, so they are no indicator. After all, they sell, for example, swimwear with a film poster for a thousand euros... Inflation through the pandemic and the war in Ukraine jumped worldwide on all products, so also on CDs. And record labels should release titles wisely, not invest in physical editions of something nobody buys. Bonds is a bestseller, so they should release these expanded editions one with the other all the time cool

No question sales are down but I thought MV said LLL had one of its best years ever a few years ago? But that said I think a lot of customers have cut back on score purchases for various reasons from the economy, stagnant wages, rising postage fees. I don't know if multi disc sets (4 and above) or box sets sell well but I pretty much can't put out that kind of money all at once. So I pretty much stick to single or two disc releases.

Not to mention an ever-dwindling amout of space, as I enter my 40th year of collecting! (with an equally large-sized collection of movies on disc!)

2024 - Moonraker cost 39 pounds from the same store.

It's amazing how "exclusivity" brings out the worst in some stores!

The 007 Store is the online "Window Shopping" equivalent to Tiffany & Co in NYC. Many items there seem out of reach for budget-friendly shoppers.
