Received mine today and it is Magnificent! Much better than the isolated score that the previous expansion was souced from.

I noticed that the music for the scene when the Emperor dies does not seem to appear in this release. are you sure...should be on it!

I don’t have the set yet myself, but it’s possible that it could be part of the track for the deleted funeral scene.

I only just realized that I purchased this set without having seen the film, heard the score or the samples. This will be one of those rare cases of sight unseen and sound unheard. Very rare in this digital age. What kind of score should I expect and which major fantasy or sci-fi film score does it ressemble the most stylistically.

That's the great thing about this score: it's kinda its own unique thing, IMO. It sounds like Trevor Jones. But expect thematic orchestral and occasionally a bit quirky. Hope you enjoy it! (I think you will.) I could post some YouTube links, but honestly I think you may have a more special experience going in blind on this one. Yavar

Very rare in this digital age. What kind of score should I expect and which major fantasy or sci-fi film score does it ressemble the most stylistically. Yavar and Andy's replies were spot on, but to answer your question more directly, it evokes for me similar moods and soundscapes as Barry's The Black Hole and Rosenthal's The Island of Dr. Moreau and Clash of the Titans. Big, sweeping, thematic melodies, exciting action sequences, and clever and varied instrumentation. I was seven years old when the film came out, so there's a heavy nostalgia factor there as well, but in my subjective opinion, it could objectively be considered one of the greatest scores of the decade.

It's one one hand very sweeping and romantic, and on the other hand very alien and unusual. By and large, very accessible and hard to dislike. As with any of these, if you're unfamiliar, I'd recommend starting with the OST first, to learn the score in its condensed form. Thankfully, it's included. You know I would have made that recommendation as well based on the previous 2 CD set until I actually heard this. The LP presentation feels much more like the film and the when compared with only the film is a more "best parts" version. But the full score in this set? It feels so much more expansive and detailed than what we ended up with. This feels like opening a window and having the light shine in. (That's the end of the movie, isn't it?)

Thanks all. I'll watch the film upon reception of the LaLa set - which I'm confident will arrive promptly and decades before my so-called Nosferatu CDs - and then go on to what looks to be a magnificently produced set.

Does anybody else’s Track 2 on Disc 1 cut off abruptly? Wondering if it’s my copy or if it’s a glitch in the master.

For clarity, what I'm hearing is at 3:00 in the track. It sounds like it's in the process of fading out, but cuts off early to complete silence. Every other tracks fades out properly. (EDIT: I should add that this is only really noticeable when listening on headphones. Perhaps I'm overstating matters. But I noticed it, so I inquired about it. In any case, it doesn't take away from what is an absolutely phenomenal release.)
