Guy Mariner Tucker (aka H Rocco), caringly referred to as His H'ness by some, was a powerhouse of information and trivia, and one of the most prolific members around untill he left the board around 2001...As MWRuger points out, he was very much into all things Japanese, and was close friend with Akira Ifukube, I believe. He was eloquent, a bit long-winded (but always interesting!) and kind. He also wrote several in-depth articles for the FSM magazine.

Wow, that was intriguing. A rare film glimpse into an FSM member. He had a somewhat odd voice, so it wasn't easy to make out everything he said, but he was certainly very proud of the Japanese people he had met.

Thanks!

Bumping this because of the other thread just started.

A couple of folks were mentioned that could be added here, but I'll leave that to someone who knew them better.

Does anyone remember a guy named Steve Johnson? He used a line drawing of Jack Benny for his avatar. I believe he lived in Texas.
He was a fairly prolific poster for a long while. His discussions were lively and he mostly shared my taste in music. He had a quick sense of humor, but not cruel, unlike some folks I won't mention.

Anyway, he disappeared a few years back, although last time I checked his profile was still active. It's a pain in the neck to locate a particular member's profile. The only way I know is to find one of their posts and click on the link. A chore for someone who hasn't posted in 5-6 years.

Anyone know him or what happened to him?

I could be wrong here, but when I read the name of 'Steve Johnson' and then the description of his avatar, well, it all rings a bell, as it were. Wasn't Steve Johnson banned? I'm fairly sure this is the same man who would bring up his religious views which were extreme and overflowed into nearly everything else. And his politics. Pretty sure he was banned.

I asked about Steve Johnson awhile back, I got along well with him.

Well, that's entirely possible. I got along with him fine because our musical tastes were similar. I tend to avoid getting into political/religious stuff because 1) it's banned and 2) I don't like confrontation , so I may have missed if there was any kerfuffle that led to his banning.
I do remember that he absolutely lost his s*it when Obama beat McCain (I knew he was very reactionary Conservative). I don't remember the religious part, but I guess it would follow. I just ignored that and talked music.

Anybody know for sure?

Yep, Steve's still active on facebook last I checked, and for the record, he was never banned from here; he just drifted away of his own accord, and he's not the religious type, either (I think "saxplayer" got banned for that, though, if I remember correctly).

By the way, Ray, you can search the board by user name under the "Search Within" function above and choosing "users" from the drop-down menu.

He is currently sharing a ranch house with John Walsh, in Birmingham, Alabama.

For those curious, this is what the messageboard looked like back then, in 98:

http://tinyurl.com/3ljufp

You'll see two of our departed in action there - H Rocco and Guy McKone. You may even click some of their threads to see their writings!

What a blast from the past! Oddly there's not one single post from Me, not sure why but I only lurked at the board until 1999.

Besides our friends who have passed on there are a few names who you never hear from anymore? Either that or they've changed they're moniker.

I'm rather stunned after looking at that old thing. Zimmer and As Good As It Gets. smile And my original Around The World... post of twenty years ago! Didn't catch the above reply of Timmer's a decade past. Huh. It's humbling.

Ugh! Well, in that case, I concur with your earlier "let sleeping assholes lie". Sorry I brought him up.

Thread title from 7/11/98:

"Horner=mediocre; horner's fan=deaf"

and from 7/9/98:

"ZORRO=BEN HUR! HORNER PLAGIARISM!!!!"

With how rapidly the world is evolving, it's good to see some things never change!

(Equal signs appear to have been more all the rage back then, though)

I've updated the first post with R.M. Eastman and RoryR. Controversial FSM characters or not, they deserve a mention in this thread.

Any of those from back then ever grow up? The childishness was astounding 20 years ago.

To be fair, Kev McGann started one yesterday, unaware of this one's existence, prompting Thor to update.

Thor I do require a copy of my obituary "for approval" before I die. Oh hell, just copy and paste from Rory's.

Wow. I missed the news on Rory, what a shock. (I never visit the non-filmmusic side of the board).

His passion with which was almost tangible. It was a welcome style and stirred discusion. I'll miss him.

Charles Thaxton, "no relation to Ford", as they said, was a treasured member of the board for many years. As far as I remember, he was mostly interested in vintage 60s and 70s stuff, and although we never interacted much, he discussed with respect and understanding for opposing viewpoints. He passed away after a long and undisclosed illness in March, 2019.

R.I.P.

Charles Thaxton was actually a keyboard player and performed under the name CHAR-EL. He has released several albums in the prog rock/new age category. Here is his biography:

Btw, I like your "honest" writings about the FSM's board departed. They were people with good and bad sides, and I think that's ok to point out.
