Thanks. Are these on the box set? How much military drum content?

Jerry Fielding - The Getaway Rejected (1972)

I listened to some of this on the InterTubes yesterday.

I would recommend The Gauntlet, a deliberately jazzy score that borrows heavily from the rhythmic "Solea" from the Miles Davis/Gil Evans collaboration, Sketches of Spain. Jon Faddis plays the trumpet solos in a decidingly more flashy style than Miles.

The main theme seemed like run-of-the-mill swing throwback. Does it pick up after that track?

Phelps says I should check out Chato's and Lawman.

Of the ones I've heard, I would agree with Phelps that "The Mechanic" is his masterpiece.

Yes Lawman is superb. Probably edges Chato's Land.
Both were adult westerns and have a late-night feel about them.

Mechanic also has that same late night feel.
Very much a red wine chill out before bed.

If i had to rebuy my Fielding collection from scratch, the essentials would be ...
Wild Bunch
Lawman
Chatos Land
Mechanic
Straw Dogs
Super cops
Killer elite

Thanks! I will check out "Strawman" and "Killer Elite." I have "Wild Bunch" and it does nothing for me, in part because it is a western.

Do you not consider Josey Wales essential, Bill?

Onya, Try the track "The Gauntlet" starting at the 1:15 mark. On Youtube.

Did Fielding only score two STAR TREK TOS Episodes?

I know he did THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES and I believe SPECTRE OF THE GUN?

I think my personal favorite Fielding Movie Score is THE KILLER ELITE.

And you get two Corleone Brothers in the movie to boot. Sonny and Tom Hagen!

I shouldve added The Outfit.

Well give up on Lawman and chatos land then Onya if you have western blindness.

Kev i think Josey wales is a great film and good theme but overrated fairly average Fielding score overall.
Its only popular because it was on LP n not CD yet.
And we go mad on here for unavailable stuff.
If it were readily available for ten years, few would bang on about it.

I trust you will enjoy the snare drums in 'The Killer Elite" big grin

I LOVE a snare drum if it is playing a heavy backbeat on a funk tune.

I LOVE a snare drum if it is being played with brushes on a jazz ballad.

I HATE snare drums when then play in a militaristic style. As Groucho famously said, "Military intelligence is to intelligence what military music is to music."

This is what makes the "Mission: Impossible" box a tough listen for me. I suppose I could load it all into ProTools and make custom edits, but it would be a lot easier to just listen to Lalo Schifrin's Dot and Paramount LPs.

If the snare drum in "Killer Elite" s playing a heavy backbeat on funk tunes, or with brushes on jazz ballads, I will like it. If it is playing military beats, it is not my thing.

WTF are you smokin' in your new digs, Bill??
That's bollox and you know it.
It's a FKN masterpiece of film scoring.
From the (adapted) Civil War Main Theme threaded throughout, there's also some brutal, aggressive action and suspense writing, that 'dancing percussion' stuff he did, a rousing western piece and some beautifully expressive 'otherworldly' scoring that mines similar classical writing in Williams' CE3K.
Have a word with yourself wink

Wait til I see you down the pub!!
Know wott I mean 'arry.

For a man who likes john williams, im surprised to find you fighting the Fielding Josey corner so vehemently.
Im a huge Fielding fan, never minded his fairly-tough-to-follow uncompromising, layered, atmospheric themes, once you are familiar with them, they are great.
But sorry, wales will be another clamoured score that once released, it will become run-of-the-mill and never spoken of on here again by anyone. Not even you, because u will be campaigning for unreleased holdridge and donaggio lol

If JOSEY WALES is unreleased on CD, what's the Josey Wales CD I'm listening to now? There's a drawing of Jerry Fielding on the cover, wearing a top hat for some reason, against a blue background. The same drawing's on my unreleased copy of THE KILLER ELITE, except it's brown-rinsed instead of blue.
