I've decided that instead of posting minor complaints to the labels over various issues I've decided to go right to the composers themselves. So I emailed Alan Silvestri and referenced a track on Red 2 in which I said I wasn't too pleased with his use of the french horn. Then I wrote a message to John Williams saying he overused the flute in Stanley and Iris. The hi-hat cymbal on Morricone's Untouchables was not to my liking. So, I'm contacting him, too. There are plenty of others who are on my list.

How do you think this will go over? I'm certain they'll have no problem with my suggestions.

-Ned

I did the same thing, they're not talking to me anymore.frown

BRUCE I am sure is a wonderful man who really does not have to answer any questions if he does not want to. He has given many film music lovers much enjoyment over the years, keep it up.

Wow, I'm SO surprised! Can't imagine a composer going through all that work, all that toil and having some anonymous person like me chiming in and setting them straight being a problem.

I find it amusing that anyone who blindly worships a label is branded a fanboy and anyone who dares to criticise is instantly a troll. It's as if feedback is welcomed by everyone... until it isn't! (And, Ford, I see no ego in the original post).

Personally I was disappointed that the tracklisting printed of The Missouri Breaks (disc 2) was yellow on orange... virtually unreadable from a distance of more that 5cm.. which didn't seem like the most intelligent artistic choice. A real shame because the front cover is blindingly good.

The CDs sound nice. And top Williams score.

I agree with you. While I don't give much feedback, I do think feedback is a good thing. It can only make something better.

Hi Bruce,

Though unsolicited, I want to tell you what I like and don't like about your releases. I believe it is always worthwhile to hear what the customer says.

OPEN LETTER TO SHANE.

1.) Whenever someone posts something like this, they are more often then not VASTLY MORE INTERESTED in getting an audience to say how right they are and inflate their ego then anything else.

2.) You have only posted TWICE (Counting this time) since 2011...That's always a redflag

3.) Why the hell didn't you email DIRECTLY to Mr. Kimmel or post it on the KRITZERLAND forum before here? You couldn’t find his email on the KRITZERLAND site?

(Got back to point one for the most likely answer).

4.) While you of course entitled to your opinion, Mr. Kimmel owns was one of the founders of VARESE SARABANDE and has been in this field for the last 35 years, so I suspect he knows what he is doing in terms of his releases, the ones he pays for out of his own pocket.

5.) If you are so unhappy with what he is doing, why not start you own label and do it the way you want it.

6.) If you're going to post this sort of nonsense, why not sign your FULL REAL NAME to it. When you don't, there is a reason for this.

Ford A. Thaxton

A perfect example of why one would be better off around here in keeping their opinions to themselves. God forbid we should have an open discussion forum! Count on any whiff of a suggestion of implied criticism toward any producer of film music recordings to be quickly and with utmost sarcasm put down by FAT, our resident curmudgeon.

P. S. Thank you Bruce for responding point by point and without rancor to the OP's comments.

Exactly what YOR was trying to say since the begining...

And if you are so unhappy with the postings here, FAT, why not start your own forum at BSX and run it your way? A side benefit for all of us would be that in future all the usual BSX complaints threads could go directly to your own site instead of here.

He probably wouldn't have very many members...

Anyone who "crosses the line" with him would probably get banned instantly.

What is this utter crapola I keep reading about using one's real name? When did that become a requirement?

The fact that the Mods here have everyone's identities (or close enough to it) is quite sufficient and there are damn good reasons for that--as anyone who has ever been harrassed and stalked over the Internet would tell you.

People wanna see their actual names up here? Fine, not a thing wrong with that. But it doesn't mean a damn thing about the validity of another person's opinion. It's called PRIVACY. Some of us like it more than others.

(Sorry, I know this is all self-evident... I'm just getting a little pissed continually reading about this aspect of posting.)

I think it's important NOT to use real names. Better to use invented names.
If he used a fictitious name like "Simon Laurence Ian Morris", Mr. Thaxton might be known here as "SLIM" rather than "FAT".

So... if someone e-mails you about one of your releases, you tell them to bugger off and start their own label, right?

Also, the fact that Bruce replied demonstrates that posting here was not a waste of time, and since it wasn't via e-mail, we all get to read his thoughts.

I believe you have left Ford A. Thaxton speechless! If he did not have this forum what would he have to do with his time?

Well, when you post to a PUBLIC FORUM you should expect all sorts of comments, good,bad,harsh,etc..

That's what you expect.

If you can dish it out, you have to take it as well.

But in the fantasy world of Dana Wilcox only fanboy praise is permitted and the big bad labels music bow before FANBOYS...

sad really.

That's because the original poster wanted audience, not answers to his questions.

A private email would have received more or less the exact same answer, just without an ego inflating audience.

Complaints.

I bet this fella shane would walk up to a girl he met in a pub and gave his views on her looks, the way she talks, her dress...

If he could go back in time, he'll probably have a long talk with Michaelangelo about the imperfections of the Statue Of David.....

And if he gets a chance to speak with God, he'll definitely complain about the human race.

That's strange. This thread's current post tally is...

"Audience-seeking" Shane: 5 posts
"Audience-Shunning" FAT: 18 posts
