Personally I use Photoshop, bought the CS6 Master Collection pack a couple of years ago and still use it today. Tried the CC trial and it definitely has a lot of new interesting features, but I’m happy enough with CS6 that I don’t feel the need to upgrade just yet. There’s a web-based program called Photopea which is very similar to Photoshop, I think it’s free otherwise there’s a premium at $9 per month. There’s also GIMP which is open source, it’s basically the OpenOffice equivalent to Photoshop, the interface differs somewhat, but you can a version that mimics the Adobe’s look and feel. But this is very expensive if you're only doing this as a hobby.
