The Don Davis stuff at the end is outstanding, riffing on the Pelican Brief version of the Sneakers music with another great sea of snares. The Ambush is missing those crucial anvil hits at the end of the cue, something I can't believe wasn't caught before the discs were produced, but nonetheless it's such an exciting cue from the start, harkening back to Horner's cop music in the 80's while doing a Your Dad's version of James Newton Howard's Fugitive drums before segueing into some Aliens-esque violin destruction.

The film version of The Ambush cue has some insane inserts that Horner never repeated in a later score, so it was a bummer that these were not highlighted or noted on the Intrada set.

Adding the Don Davis stuff from the ending onto the existing Milan set is really the way to go, but you gotta get the Intrada set to make your own version!

Whereabouts are the anvils missing? Just played both versions through and can hear anvils at the same place - about 8.35 in.

I don't have the Intrada one with me, but the anvils that start at 8:32 in the Milan version aren't there in the Intrada. Did they repress and fix that? I don't think they did!

Maybe they did because they are on mine although it has to be said not quite as prominent.

Can I hear some opinions on Hunt for Red October? I owned the original release and of course the Red October hyme is one of the best pieces Poledouris wrote in my opinion. I was always on the fence about the rest of the score. Any thoughts?

The album is a greatest hits package of a masterful score, so while it has its place IMHO the Intrada version is worth the upgrade assuming that you like the score. It more than doubles the album length. A lot of that material is taken up with the ambient, suspenseful portions of the score (like the eerie percussive bits when the DSRV approaches the Red October) and really fleshes it out. The Intrada also includes the end title cue which wasn't on the album.

I know that particular Poledouris mode isn't everyone's cup of whiskey but, again IMHO, it's one of his very best scores and deserves to be any BP fan's collection in its fullest form.

It's a great pity that little effort was put into making the Intrada sound better than the old MCA release...

Unfortunately re-recording the score wasn't an option. When I hear the phrase "little effort" I have to shake my head. So much time and effort went into this release (as our others) to have it just shaken off like this is just sad.

Bottom line, he purchased it, that's the important thing.

I did. Back in November 2013, together with another couple of CDs. I hold the Intrada hamsters very dear, and I would hope that one of the few gripes I ever had with one of their releases won't lead to being nibbled to death by Georgie, Gracie, Stacie and Basie.

But the point of "little effort" being a harsh descriptor is taken, Roger, and I apologise for using it. (I will keep my former post un-edited.)

Yeah, re: CAPD, the first anvil hit at 8:32 is there, but the others are missing until they return at 8:37-ish.

Missing anvils? I'm canceling my order! JK! I'm not familiar with the score so ignorance is bliss.

So hard to believe that there is still one copy of THE CAINE MUTINY left ; let alone something like 199. When did so many people start enjoying ". C- R-A- P " ?

An iconic score like THE CAINE MUTINY should have sold out a long time ago.
