Those two TFG credits are ontop of two already on his IMDb credits, so that would make four. At least. The full credits for the series are not on there yet. Today I completed the first season scoring credits.

Gotcha! BTW, I'm the one who wrote Mort's Bio and Award info as well as many of his credits at IMDB...:-)

62 what did he die from, pretty young actually.

Cancer, IIRC.

He also "died" in the S3 Hawaii Five-O episode, "Trouble in Mind", after getting a hold of some arsenic-tinged smack.

P.S. I sure miss his music fanfare for the "CBS Special Presentation" banner! You knew a show was "special" when you heard that.

Now go, play it fifty times! wink

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLPhhu7e0bE&feature=related

The same disease that would later kill his friend Goldsmith. That fanfare from "C.B.S. Special Presentation" is actually from the second track of Call To Danger", the second track from the "Hawaii Five O" L.P. And does anybody remember his theme for "The C.B.S. Thursday/Friday Night Movie" (you can hear part of it in an episode of "Gilligan's Island" where Gilligan's mouth becomes a radio transmitter). It was later rearranged for the "C.B.S. Thursday/Friday Night Movie"'s 71-72 season, and was used for the Sunday night version, which lasted only one season, and was rearranged again for "The New C.B.S. Tuesday Night Movies" for the '72-73 season. They should put BOTH versions of the themes on a Morton Stevens C.D. compilation someday. An underrated composer, to be sure.

Yes, Mort's THURSDAY NIGHT MOVIE theme was also heard in many episodes of HAWAII FIVE-O, as well as "source" music in a great little CBS TV movie/Thriller that Mort did, entitled "The Face Of Fear" (1971) which starred a young Elizabeth Ashley. Also, Mort did a new arrangement of the theme for the short-lived, "The New CBS Tuesday Night Movies" (1972)

Anyway, a great theme that was always a pleasure to hear, courtesy of Mr. Stevens...:-)

Although I can't stand the series I watched the one Knight Rider episode scored by Stevens only to hear Mort's score. I was very impressed! Simply an outstanding score. Too sad this was not released when Lukas did the Stu Phillips scores back then on FSM.

Totally agree! Mort's score was the best of the series!...:-)

Thanks Justin - I have this taped on an old VHS. That really is
cool, classic Mort in his early 70s vibe.

Anyway, thanks for posting...I really appreciate it and as they
say, keep em' comin'...:-)

It's a shame that Stevens never got to score the big films like his mentor Goldsmith, though his television output makes up for it.

Well said, Sir. One score that NEVER seems to get much
love around here is Mort's score for the Jerry Lewis comedy
HARDLY WORKING...a truly charming score done with that
classic Stevens sound.

I like Jerry Lewis films, but when I went to see HW in the
theatre, back in 1981, I wanted to hear Mort's music
in the theater and seeing MUSIC BY MORTON STEVENS
come across that big screen while his theme from that
movie was playing was a great thrill for me.

Anyway, the HARDLY WORKING CD is a real gem
and I thank BSX so much for putting it out to us.

For people who don't have this CD, you
owe it to yourself to check it out...:-)

Thinking of Mort today, as today is the 25th Anniversary of his untimely passing.

Here's to you, dear Mort...

Yes very much Morton Stevens was a good composer

I just saw the television film "The Disappearance Of Flight 412" on one of those crummy looking public domain D.V.D.s last night, replete with a fine score by Stevens.

You can find the score on iTunes (performed by the London Studio Symphony Orchestra), but unfortunately, due to legal rights (because the film is owned outright by star/director Jerry Lewis, who picked Stevens to score the film), the film isn't on D.V.D. or Blu ray.

Yeah, I still have my VHS copy of HARDLY WORKING
By PLAYHOUSE VIDEO, but I did manage to make a DVD-R
copy of it many years ago for preservation purposes.

I always wondered why Lewis never put the film out on
DVD along with all of his other films that he did put out.

I know he was VERY pleased with Mort's score, but he
was somewhat disappointed with the finished film, I believe...

Thank you for posting, kind Sir - classic Mort Stevens!

Now if I can just locate a copy of the G. E. Theatre episode,
THE PATSY (1960), starring the great Sammy Davis Jr. and
also features Mort's very first television score!:-)
