He, he....love these unlikely juxtapositions.

Like, "now listening to the occult chant music from TEMPLE OF DOOM while enjoying a cocktail on my sunny balcony".

I must admit that Jerry Fielding is one of those composers who has, largely, passed me by ... or should that be the other way round? smile I have only three of his scores: The Outfit (1973) which I like, The Gauntlet (1977) which I so-so like (great opening track) and Lawman (1971) which is also hit and miss for me. Also, when I've noticed his music - such as The Enforcer (1976) - I haven't been tempted to get the soundtrack.

But during our off-forum chat last evening I lowered the tone significantly when I mentioned another Jerry Fielding album I own: Debbie (1959) ... Debbie Reynolds ... 12 easy-listening songs, arranged and conducted by JF. https://www.discogs.com/Debbie-Debbie/release/8241405 It's good to know he went on to better things ... (even if his avant-garde style was not to my taste).

I also have Frank Sinatra's recording of the song Heart of Mine by JF (lyrics by Ned Washington) for the film Advise & Consent (1962) but amongst nearly 1,300 FS recordings, this song doesn't get much air-play.

So, in answer to the posed question I would suggest (i) any of the three scores I own ... very different and each has good cues (if not solidly enjoyable); and (ii) I should expand my JF collection and see if a decade of Stravinsky, Bartók, Bacewicz, Berg, et al. has opened my ears to JF's work.

Yes, there are. Each track has a snare drum passage.

Snare drums playing heavy funk backbeats, or military rhythms? I have no issue with the snare drum as an instrument: I have issues with childish genres like military music.

Fielding was very underrepresented on LP, so for those of us who are/were focused on LPs, it was easy to miss him.

Kind of like Billy Goldenberg and Pat Williams. All this great stuff that didn't exist outside of the films/TV shows.

Now listening to "The Mechanic," his masterpiece.

I would be curious to know what you think about THE NIGHTCOMERS, should you ever listen to it, Onya.

I listened to one track, which I think was the main theme. It was nice. If I can find a longer suite, I will check it out.

OK, cool. A longer "suite" is on the aforementioned Bay Cities sampler. But yeah -- hard to find these days:

I just found the whole album on YouTube. Will spin it later this afternoon.

And let's not forget Fielding's work with the fabulous Hi-Lo's!

Military because of the series's internal nature.

Thanks. I should load the box into Protools and delete the sections with military drums. I would probably end up with a decent 35-minute album!

I REALLY hate the way the source cues on "The Mechanic" are pasted on to the end. Who makes such artistically bankrupt decisions? These cues should be integrated into the running order.

Great too see so many comments on this topic! Fielding is great! My favourite score of his is The Nightcomers. I have a few scores that I have spared that I have not listened yet but other good ones that I have listened are Lawman, Chato's Land, Scorpio, The Black Bird, The Killer Elite, The Bad News Bears, The Outlaw Josey Wales (great theme on this one) and Beyond The Poseidon Adventure (better than Williams's first one).

Here are some (post-bicentennial) titles not frequently championed:

GRAY LADY DOWN
THE BIG SLEEP
ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ
FUNERAL HOME

While not personal faves, these are still moderately good Fielding scores (IMO).
If one is receptive toward Fielding's electronic soundscapes heard in DEMON SEED,
then one might not be dismissive about ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ.
THE BIG SLEEP could be a good listening companion along with David Shire's FAREWELL, MY LOVELY.

The underwater submarine disaster GRAY LADY DOWN may be diluted Fielding suspense music in comparison to his pre-Watergate masterpieces, but I'm grateful that Fielding was not obligated to mount the late-'70s bandwagon by emulating Holst and brassy heroic marches.

I need to give Escape From Alcatraz another go.
I quite enjoy Demon Seed, but have struggled with the Eastwood one whenever I've played it.
I actually prefer the Rosenman on the disc wink
The others you noted are all very enjoyable, especially Funeral Home, despite what I'm led to believe are copious classical borrowings.
I'll tell you one I do really love...The Black Bird. What an opening title/theme.

I was just reviewing Jerry's Wiki page, and it does not reference his work with the Hi-Lo's.

Strange.

I like your audacity!
