I by no means intend to be disrespectful and I'm sorry if I'm flogging a dead horse but I have a question for MV and Mr. Thaxton. I'm curious to know if Powell had a specific reason for going with the album version of the "Final Reunion/End Title" cue instead of the film version. Was there a problem with the performance or mix or did he just like the edited version better? That version on GNP was in the mix until he vetoed it and chose to use the original album version which he wanted. He just didn't want it included for his own reasons END OF STORY. Ford A. Thaxton

Dear MV and Matt! 5 years since it's release and been a long time listed as "Temporarily Out of Stock". Will there be a last repressing or should we write this one off and go hunting for it on the secondary market?

The mini apocalypse delayed it. Sorry guys. It's at the plant ready to be packaged just not in our offices.

Dear MV and Matt! 5 years since it's release and been a long time listed as "Temporarily Out of Stock". Will there be a last repressing or should we write this one off and go hunting for it on the secondary market? You have been waiting years for a repressing?? That takes dedication. I would consider anything over 1 year as 'no longer available'. Anyway, copies can be found on eBay for reasonable prices. A copy sold a week ago for $25.

It's been out of stock for about 18 months or so

Well, it only took me about 8 years of procrastination before I finally pulled the trigger on this one. I had the LP, which I loved. I bought the GNP expanded edition, which I loved...and, I guess, figured would do me fine. BUT!!! I've always had a special affinity for both the film and its music score (haters be damned). The thing that many people dislike - the rhythm section and rock sensibilities - are what make it stand out and unique for me. Spinning it now...there's quite a lot of unreleased music I'm hearing for the first time, away from the film. Plenty orchestral too, making the ratio between the traditional orchestral scoring vs the rock vibe even way more in favour of the symphonic style. It's all bloody great too. Some of the premier stuff is really strong. Booklet looks nice (haven't read it properly yet). Bang up job, sound-wise, by James Nelson. But f**k me, that text for the track titles is small on the back cover!! I look like Peter Cushing in TOP SECRET when I'm reading it. But yeah, great job everybody. I'm glad I caved before it went OOP...Forever.

Hurdy McGurdy wrote: These film composers can be right pains in the arse, can't they. "These film composers", as you put it, are human beings. As such, they have their own individual artistic tastes, and emotional associations. Their tastes may lead them to prefer a particular version of a track, as it might better represent their initial ideas. Alternatively, they may prefer it because it better suits the scene. Their emotions may come into play if they associate a particular version of a cue with, say, instructions from a director that over-ride their own choices, Now when, many, many moons after the film is released, a specialty label (meaning very small print run) approaches them to re-release their score, they now have a chance to release the score as they themselves might have wished it done. Commercial realities are less pressing, and instead, they're dealing with a producer who's actually a fan of the music. In such circumstances, it's understandable that they take the chance to present the music as they think best. So no, they're not being "pains in the arse", unless we re-define the phrase to mean "not giving entitled fans exactly what they want".
