Have you heard the new set? I was wondering if anyone who had could confirm whether or not "What A Drag (Original)" was the source of the majority of the "Sub Battle" cue.

If you haven't heard the new set, then yes, I guess anyone would be right in assuming that you didn't know what you were talking about in this case.

Anyway, could someone in California with the set confirm this? I was just wondering is all. No need to get up in arms about your qualifications.

Yes, I've heard the entire new set - it's fantastic!

Silvestri never wrote any music for the sub battle sequence. In the film, portions of "Montana", "He's Convulsing", "What A Drag (Original), and "What A Drag (Wild Original)" were all globbed together to cover it.

On the original OST, they created a track called "Sub Battle" that was comprised of "He's Convulsing" from 0:00-1:08, then Crashing Crane" from 1:08-end.

So we can call like, five different tracks "Sub Battle" then?

I don't have this album so I don't have the liner notes either but, what scene does the track "The Draggiest Man" go to. Obviously What a Drag is the crane pulling the station towards the cliff but I've drawn a blank on the next scene, it's been a long time since I've scene the movie. Just curious as I haven't been able to jog my memory.

I really hope this comes out on BD this year as well because I got rid of my DVD many, many years ago.

I hope to have the extra money to buy this before it sells out.

Seconded! smile

So if I read this file correctly, the OST can (theoretically) be reconstructed completely using the Deluxe Edition - you just have to cut and/or merge a few cues. Or am I reading this wrong, Jason?

I think, given the data in this spreadsheet, one can.

Effectively an OST Remaster can be created here.

I've been greatly enjoying this release, BTW. There are some awesome cues here not on the OST.

I've actually recreated the original album using the Deluxe Edition album. The only problem is that "Blinky Bows" from the DE doesn't have a clear beginning as it is crossfaded with the cue "Bud Reborn". So for my recreated album I used the "Finale" cue from the original album.

I also never liked the way "Search the Montana" was presented on the original album. If you listen carefully you can hear that the cue is part of a longer cue and the DE album (where it is prestented in 2 parts) confirms this. I used the full first part of the cue for my album recreation.

Yea, I'm sure one could reconstruct the OST using the DE using a WAV editor, but I'm not quite why anyone would want to do that.

I think I'll be making a personal edit that restores Silvestri's original versions of cues into the flow of the main program in favor of the revised. It seems Silvestri originally intended to feature the love theme throughout the whole score, and Cameron had him systematically remove it, replacing emotion with atmospherics until the end of the score. I am really enjoying these earlier versions and am so thankful this release came out so we get to hear them. A really cool surprise.

Why?
Does anyone expect this soundtrack to sell out soon and why?

Well, you never know, it could sell out plus we are really strapped for money right now and I'm not sure when I'll be able to buy it. This thread isn't making the wait any easier but, I just can't stop reading.

Probably for the same reason you're making your own personal edit?

I'd like to have some "album version" cues that aren't totally inaudible like the OST was at times, so that's probably why he's doing it, too.

Same here, but they were right on that CC charge though... frown

A little irked, but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
