I'm buying it, but I have to say this annoys me. I did not understand this release as being well if we find better sources for TOS we will add them here. I am not even a fan of the TOS music, so now I have a bunch of TOS music I will never listen to, when it could have included more music from other Trek's like the movies, other shows, or video games. I understand that sometimes you find better sources, but that should be something separate. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but considering the price would be more than fair for everything else, if the TOS tracks were dropped, it's hard for me, personally, to find much sympathy for your point of view.

A lovely collection, to be sure. The only ooooonly thing missing that I'd have liked to see is the album version of "The Mutara Nebula" from STAR TREK II. MV, Lukas, et al, was this ever considered to be put on the collection, was space an issue, etc.? Obviously the animated series music is for many TOS fans the disc that's well worth the already modest price of admission. Kudos!

Well, it's a tricky road to go about correcting sets. Where does it end? What about people who want TWoK end crdits version without narration which is only on this set, for example? By the way, wasn't the wind machine mixed down in another cue, too?

So, a 50th anniversary CD set should exlude music from the very 50 year old show being celebrated? I find that unthinkable. I get that it celebrates the Franchise as a whole, but it started with TOS. This is what happens with collections and compilations. Often you wind up with music that doesn't interest you. As it stands, there are plenty of house woth of music from TNG (the series which - for my money - had the least interesting music overall), DS9, and Enterprise. With Voyager and more DS9 on the way. Love this set. Even the stuff I have no interest in.

To be honest, this set isn't at all what I was expecting when it was first announced. I guess I thought it was going to be more akin to a "greatest hits" of Trek across the ages, with equal attention being given to all shows and movies, with rarities thrown in for good measure. But that was probably just my misinterpretation of the idea from the very start and sure its easy enough for me to cobble together a playlist of hits myself! Seeing what they've done now makes much more sense. This is one for the rabid Trek collector. It rounds out the two collections they won't be doing any more sets of (TOS and TNG) and offers something much sought after by some (the Animated Series) and a dose of long-time requests from the movies and subsequent shows. Its understandable that DS9 and Voyager aren't represented as much, as they have more sets forthcoming. I can see where some of the more recent posters are coming from. Having bought certain older (and expensive) sets before, they may be miffed at the inclusion of slightly improved tracks in this set. In these instances Lalaland are in a bit of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't situation". I don't think that this set makes any of the other ones invalid or "faulty" with requirements of replacement discs. When they brought out those glorious sets originally, I'm sure they felt they were using the very best versions/takes possible. Now they are just trying their best to get as much of the most wanted material out there as they can. Its impossible to please everyone. I really do think, with all the music they've managed to release over the past number of years, Lalaland (and the other labels, for that matter) deserve an incredible amount of thanks for the herculean amount of work thats obviously gone into producing these sets. I really hope my copy arrives before Christmas *crosses fingers*

Looking at this set, it is clear that there are some excellent "wants" to address us finicky fans. - Star Trek TAS - Awesome, even if the master tapes were lost, and these had to be pieced together from the music stems. - Star Trek TOS - Amazing that some new sources were found, facilitating a better sounding upgrade to our personal archives. Also great for purposes of preserving this work. - Star Trek II Epilogue sans narration - A very cool way to give us the option of hearing James Horner's music in the clear, or with Spock's narration. It is amazing to me that the sheer volume and comprehensiveness of material from Star Trek means we now have, at our fingers, the ability to musically represent every voyage of the original Enterprise, and all of the movies, with essentially no gaps (except for a drum overlay). I am immensely grateful for all of the work that has gone into the release of this amazing body of work.

I just want everybody to know I read all of these comments and I appreciate all of the different opinions. I understand where everybody is coming from. I can't and won't get into all of the reasons behind our decisions except to say that if I owned all of the music and/or were independently wealthy I'd give it all away. But I'm not! Also that I am first and foremost glad that we have been able to release so much of this music. For me as a fan it is a dream come true to be able to hear it all. Thanks for listening and for your feedback. Lukas

It's an exciting time to be a score lover and it's made even better by people like Lukas who love what they do and put love into it.

Well, I can't come up with a better way that this could have happened. In most other circumstances if "new and improved" odds and ends are discovered then that's just kind of tough luck isn't it. Didn't one of people who worked on the Rhino Superman say that he heard newly discovered Superman music on the DAY that those CDs hit the stores? I know both TMP and TWOK are on disc exactly the way the labels wanted them. It wasn't a mistake or something that was found later. But I don't suppose there has been any talk of a TOS box 2.0? (Not for me! I couldn't afford another soundtrack for almost a year after buying that monster!) Or will this always be the TOS Box Companion Set? Interesting conundrum. This is an embarrassment of riches. Hell, the last time the original Star Wars trilogy got any new music was almost twenty years ago! Also: TAS!

Hum, something occured to me: I assume not all the units of the TOS box were pressed at one time. If that's correct, could future TOS box pressings include the newly found elements on this set?
