Isham is a wonderful composer, but he doesn't have the fanbase of Horner. Sometimes it's all about the composer (Williams, Goldsmith, Barry, Elfman, Zimmer, Poledouris, Kamen, Herrmann, Carpenter) seem to have fans that will buy just about everything...even over again if there is something new to add!

Agree! I'll buy even Bells (aka Murder by Phone) - just 'cause it's Barry score! smile

And I'm not complaining, I adore Horner. My reaction was adressed to those who think we need expanded reissues of scores like "Bopha".

See, I could have mentioned any other score, but I specifically mentioned "Bopha!" because it was one of three scores released by "Big Screen Records" that Horner composed, and LLL had acquired the rights to their catalog a few years ago - the first Horner title from that defunct label getting the expanded treatment being "Searching For Bobby Fischer", which came literally days before Horner's plane crash.

The other two titles released were the above mentioned "Bopha!" and "The Pelican Brief".

I mentioned that score specifically also because like "Unlawful Entry", "Bopha!" is an almost all-synth score.

Bopha! is actually one of his best synth scores if you whittle it down to like 20 minutes.

I'd actually like a release of BELLS (and if it wasn't recorded in Canada, I'd like to believe that there's a shot in hell it'll be released).

??? Recorded in Canada? What would be the difference?

Different fees. Do you remember Funeral Home? It was recorded in Canada and their musician union asked much more than AFM, that's why the price was much higher for 1CD release - $29.98.
From another point of view - Bells is synth-only score, so not much musicians (only 1-2 were mention in credits, if I remember it correctly) were involved, so maybe it will not cost as much as if it was recorded with full orchestra.
But in any case - it's TOOOOOOO obscure - I doubt that any label could sell even 300-500 of this one even among hardcore Barry fans. Maybe I'm wrong.

I wish the July 4th sale lasted one more day so we could order them along with the new releases (for combined shipping).

Overseas customers approve this message (again...) !

Unlawful Entry...seriously?! We don't have remastered or expanded versions of The Land Before Time or the American Tail movies, but we have a complete version of that droning piece of synth crap? What's next, a deluxe edition of Class Action?

The conversation usually goes something like this at a label: "Should we expand An American Tail or Unlawful Entry first?" "Unlawful Entry, OF COURSE." As I've said before, if it was easy, it'd be done. Both Land Before Time and American Tail have been on our list with UMG for years. They'll eventually get done, but these co-productions between UMG and Universal take a lot of time and patience.

Well, apparently the same fellows did the credits.

It's not a wasted effort. It's a sound economic decision with a guarantee of 1000 units sold within the first 30 days of release, netting an income of roughly $17k, a profit of about $8k.

Not really news. Do you think there is any title by Horner, Goldsmith, Williams, et al that need an expansion aren't on one label's list or another?

S*P*Y*S, maybe? smile

Bruce at one point said something on the lines of "everything worth doing from the Varese Fox Box has already been spoken for," but that one conspicuously hasn't come out from any label, years after Intrada tackled expanded Von Ryan's Express/Shock Treatment/Fate Is the Hunter...

The strange few of us who derive great enjoyment from that zany score await news with baited breath, haha.

Yavar

P.S. Not one you mentioned explicitly, but in light of the above I'm very glad Balto is on someone's list. the quarter hour or so of music missing is really good stuff.

Sure I know the specialty labels would love to do these. But I'm not an insider and didn't know if there were rights issues, lost masters, etc that would prevent them from ever seeing the light of day. (Example: NIMH masters are lost) MV already said he's interested in these titles. But this doubly confirms these releases are possible, and it's just a matter of time.
