Since we are here because we love film music, I get an uneasy feeling when we say Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbound; it would be more appropriate to say Miklos Rozsa's Spellbound. I don't buy CD's because of directors; I buy because of composers. Dimitri Tiomkin is one of my favorites. No one could have been more ecstatic than myself for seeing my number one holy grail released by Tadlow...DUEL IN THE SUN. No one compares to Mr. Tiomkin on epic style films and westerns; just like no one compares to Miklos Rozsa on film noir dramas and religious themed films. I have had my say and now I hope everyone will see to it this campaign keeps Excalibur from going bye bye.

It seems to be not quite true as you can read on the Kickstarter website itself where Intrada states that it will be the same Slovak National Symphony Orchestra orchestra that had been chosen for the SPELLBOUND recording:

"Check out a sample of Intrada's recording from Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbound recorded with the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra"

I was just wondering if the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra and the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra were the same orchestra, since I read this line in the Kickstarter page.
However, if not so, I am happy as well, because I've listened this ensemble in the awesome NORTH BY NORTHWEST McNeely rerecording, and they are great in my opinion.
About the Slovak Radio Symphony, instead, I would not be so worried, under the right baton they can be excellent, as evidenced in recordings like the "Mystery and Horror" album conducted by Stromberg for Marco Polo, or "Secondhand Lions" by Patrick Doyle, and many others.

Having Stromberg on the podium gives me confidence in the project.

I'm more concerned about meeting the Kickstarter goal.

With nearly three weeks to go, it's currently 40 percent funded.

Tiomkin is king. This is, in fact, a fine score, regardless of the director. There are some wonderful, subtle lyrical passages that are very effective in the work, and succeed as satisfying listening experiences removed from its visually dominated medium.

They are not, but share some players. See my post above.

It was Herrmann's shortest score for Hitchcock, in part because of the reuse of Arthur Benjamin's original Storm Clouds Cantata from the 1934 film, in part because of Doris Day's "Que Sera, Sera" being another musical signature throughout the film. That said Herrmann still wrote some great music for the film

I watched The Man Who Knew Too Much last night and timed the score's length. About 23 minutes of Hermann's music -- I counted 18 cues (5 of which are very brief) -- it is very good. There's about 9 minutes of Benjamin's Storm Clouds Cantata and around 7 minutes of Day's vocals ("Que Sera, Sera" sung a capella, later with piano, plus a second song which is mostly dialed out of the scene). It would be great if the original tracks from the soundtrack still exist and could be released (although I would assume licensing Day's vocals might not be possible). I would also buy a re-recording but then I'd like to have Benjamin's music included.

I cannot fathom any rerecording wouldn't include it, at least Herrmann's version, though it's been recorded more than once before (has the original ever been?).

I'm also concerned. The 3 most expensive options have been backed by 3 people thus far out of 25, and there's not really much difference between two of the options. King of Kings Kickstarter also had three options to visit the recording sessions, but King of Kings is a more popular score than DIAL M. It seems that Intrada is far too dependent on the most expensive awards for a score that's not well liked. With 18 days to go, I think Intrada should offer more mid-level awards such as The Amazing Bundle ($150), A Galactic Bundle ($300), and A Field Day ($400) which are all gone. Indeed, as I stated earlier why not have a Digging for Gold(smith) or Win with Williams options containing OOP and non-OOP titles? Most of the CDs that were offered in A Field Day award option were OOP, so it is possible to do.

They could easily reach out to some of their regular "composers" who could donate or autograph some of their most popular titles... eg autographed copy of Clash of the Titans LP would be very tempting... or Young Sherlock Holmes autographed by Broughton - although that one was actually available from CF at the time... or Jaws double signed by JW,... but there is MANY similar options....

I'm sure they have a few sugar daddies waiting to save the day at the last minute, or they wouldn't have bothered with the Kickstarter campaign to begin with.

I agree with your thinking;perhaps even a "sugar lady".

Yes, I'm sure that a few of the many, many women who post here will kick in a thousand or two.

That's true, but I was thinking of one singular person in particular who shall remain nameless.

That's a bit of a dicey strategy with a score like this to be honest.

Good idea Lokutus, I wonder if Intrada will take your suggestion on board?

I think that contributions from this forum will continue to trickle in but the big supports have already chipped in. If you really care about this campaign I would suggest that you post a link to it on any forum where you think members would be interested but not necessarily film score collectors.

Another thought:

Where is Lucas on this?

Would it be appropriate for him to make a pitch?

If we knew what their next Kickstarter choice would be ,it might inspire those who are dragging their feet on this initial choice that they made.
