To be brutally honest, we don't have a Horner, or a Goldsmith, or a Barry... There isn't a current working composer capable of writing an epic melodic score which the Avatar sequels need. It's too late. We've had too many decades of sound design scores and filmmakers don't understand how to properly use music in films.
I'm surprised they didn't go to the usual Hollywood default of Zimmer.
This is such hyperbolic bullsh*t take that I don't even know where to start...
I don't recall ever having heard a single solo Simon Franglen score (of course, I heard THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN adaptation of Horner's score), so I do not have an opinion about this either way. Cameron is a perfectionist, so I guess he knows what he wants and why he chose Franglen. I will certainly approach this with an open mind. A new AVATAR sequel coming out makes me realize how incredibly sad it is that we have lost James Horner much too early, I would have loved to hear a new AVATAR score by James Horner.
