”I only hear what's worth listening to.” The Karate Kid Part II (Expanded Original Motion Picture Score) - Bill Conti
This sequel, which should’ve been the only sequel due it to perfectly tying up Miyagi‘s story, was released in theaters 35 years ago today. The plot taking place outside America allowed Conti to freshen up the score and expand on themes old/new without ever feeling like a retread of the previous score.
”You're luggage!” Eraser (Expanded Archival Collection) - Alan Silvestri
Chuck Russell’s underrated (and as far as I’m concerned Schwarzenegger’s last good action movie) was released in theaters 25 years ago today. Eraser is also up there with some of Silvestri’s best action scores. “Kruger’s Escape”, which takes place during the action scene where Arnold is hanging from a plane and skydiving for his parachute, is up there with some of Silvestri’s most exciting action cues. An interesting bit of trivia on the audio commentary of the original Predator special edition DVD director John McTiernan mentioned that the parachute sequence from Eraser was in the original script of Predator (as Arnold and his team dive from the chopper into the jungle) but wasn’t filmed due to time or budget.
Speaking of The Prince Of Tides, it's one my favourite soundtrack buys from my days living in Barbados. Because it was almost all instrumental! I was so excited to find it you'd never believe it... made under licence in Jamaica.
