Agreed, I've been dreaming of that for years!

I don't think the fanbase is big enough. Maybe still for 1980's shows i. e. "Magnum, p.i.", "Knight Rider", "The A-Team", "Miami Vice" & "Airwolf" (but the latter one is perhaps quiet "specific" already). Besides: after 2008's fire, can we sure, tapes are still there?

I think it would sell. There is a whole Columbo fanbase out there, I think it could work. When I spoke to Pat Williams about it, he said, he wished it would happen as long as he‘s still alive. Sadly it did not.

Watching my new BluRay of the original series, wanting a Columbo score box more than ever. Never really appreciated Dick De Benedictis until now (though I have to admit the Bernardo Segalls are my least favorites).

Sagall was a competent composer, but he does pale compared to Melle, Goldenberg, Nelson and De Benedictis. Also, was Charade by Mancini credited in Now You See Him..

Have you been enjoying the isolated music & effects tracks on the Blu-ray?

I think I like *all* of the scoring for the original 70s run of the show, to be honest. It's all varying degrees of "good" aside from the odd track job here and there which kinda sticks out.

The scoring for the revival run that began in the late 80s was a lot more uneven, but there were still some real gems.

I think I still ideally hope for an 8-10 CD box set covering the entire original series, and a 4CD box set of the best highlights from the revival. But if a 4CD box of highlights from the original series is seen as more practical, I'd of course happily and gratefully buy that too.

I‘m with you Yavar, I think the best scores are from the first seasons in the 70s up to the seventh season, the late ones are not the most interesting, seasons are pretty uneven too. But I loved Columbo. Back then you had to sit in front of the tv, or hope for a re-run, if you missed an episode.

Patrick Williams's score to Try and Catch Me has stayed with me since I first saw the episode as a child. Been humming it regularly ever since.

No one wrote better Columbo scores than Goldenberg, IMO. And thankfully, I have them all in excellent sound, right from Mr. Goldenberg.

Wow, I'm jealous Bruce! I only have his first Columbo score, Ransom for a Dead Man. Would love to get his other original scores for the series' first couple seasons someday... even though I like Oliver Nelson's The Greenhouse Jungle best of all. wink

You two are breaking my heart! This is about the only want I have left - the Goldenberg scores especially, but so many good ones from the early years.

Does anybody from you have some music from Rockford, Magnum, A-Team and Airwolf in good quality? smile

So now that our FSM member Bruce Kimmel says without reserve that he has a good copy of these tapes, we only still need Universal to allow this thing to be released at last, provided a label like Lalaland or Intrada is (still) interested ?

A big step forward might have been anyway achieved to get this music preserved...at least for the Billy Goldenberg material.

Maybe the music and effects track available on some COLUMBO japanese Blu-ray box set actually comes from these same tapes?

The music and effects track is on the two recent Kino Blu-ray sets. Bruce clearly has something different, music-only received from Billy Goldenberg himself. And if Universal is cooperating with a label on licensing, I would hope they'd also cooperate with a label in sourcing more than just Goldenberg scores as music-only from their archives.

I think Universal just moves slowly, especially on TV stuff. The labels know we want Columbo. I suspect we just have to be patient. But yeah, if elements just don't survive in the Universal vaults any more, I would love it if Bruce could assist another active label to put out an album of the complete Billy Goldenberg Columbo scores! Would be a lot better than the nothing we've gotten thusfar.

I would take almost anything Columbo, but patience? I am getting old Yavar, another 50 years just won‘t be possible.
