Totally. The music completely drove the first 10, virtually-dialogue-free minutes of that episode, post-teaser.

Rambling thoughts begin:

I'm looking forward to the liner notes too and learning "how-in-the-hell" does a person filter through 10 years of work (hundreds of eps) and drill down on the "best"... well, I hope he gets some sleep after Tues...'cause no doubt - folks will start yelling "it wasn't on there...boo hoo" ...give me a break.

We should all be so lucky and appreciative that Mr. Snow and LLL see the business potential it this, the desire to want to listen to it sans the visuals and still get folks at 1013 and 20th to make this happen. Gratitude everyone...gratitude.

Rambling thoughts end.

Yep, I'm sure someone will grip and raise some sort of stink about this release. However, all of us should realize that this show aired almost 10 years ago and that was tremendous amount of material to go through. I mean not only did Mr. Snow compose music for The X-Files but he composed scores for The Lone Gunmen, Millennium and Harsh Realm while writing/composing for The X-Files. Folks that's a lot work in 9 years!!

LLL, Mr. Snow and others have gone above and beyond in producing this 4-cd set. We, the consumers, should be extremely grateful that they have put such dedication, effort and hard work in producing this release! Remember there is also going to be a Volume 2 release in 2012, so relax if your "pick" didn't make it.

This should also send a clear message to 20th Century Fox that the fans want to see The X-Files back on the big screen! wink

That would be nice. Fox might be hesitant to do it because of the disappointing domestic box office take of I Want To Believe, but what's to stop them from doing a direct-to-DVD follow-up? I'd be happy with that.

Going up against The Dark Knight didn't help The X-Files: I Want to Believe at all! I'm hoping they will do another movie that goes back to the mythology of the series.

That had nothing at all to do with it. It was simply an atrocious film. It would have made for a forgettable episode. There was no reason to try and make a 2-hour film out of that.

I do think that had a lot to do with it, as I was in the States at the day X-files premiered, and it was hugely overshadowed by the Dark Knight, which was breaking box office records and the theater we went to in Hollywood screened The Dark Knight 24 hours a day to packed rooms. Granted, IWTB was a different type of thriller and a bit too far from the x-files mythos, but had it been released before Dark Knight, I'm sure it would have done a lot better.

By the way, I want to Believe has some of the best music Snow composed for x-files. Been playing it a lot in preparation for the boxset smile

I certainly hope so, as I just ordered that a few days ago. I never bothered back when the movie came out as I wanted nothing to do with the franchise for quite some time after seeing it.

That had nothing at all to do with it. It was simply an atrocious film.

I would much rather watch a small, creepy movie that questions the audience's faith than watching a superhero movie by a director who doesn't understand the source material rattling sabres against the Bush Administration using poor writing.

D-2!

Well, the X-Files fan community is hyped up for sure! And I'm not just talking about the US population, but overseas, and non-English speaking as well! Several will be checking out at 1pm PST on D-Day...

Additionally, courtesy of EatTheCorn's 1013 Interviews Database
http://www.eatthecorn.com/1013.htm
you can find plenty of Mark Snow interviews over the years:
http://etc1013.wordpress.com/tag/mark-snow/
Currently archived: 19!
There are literally hundreds of other Ten Thirteen Productions interviews in there.

@guyatkings:
Looks like season five is the season that was whittled down the most, because there's only one track between track 5 of Disc 3 (a track from Emily, episode 6 of season 5) and track 7 (a track from Triangle, episode 3 of season six.)

Indeed that's a good observation. I'd love to have music from 5X14: The Red and the Black in there somewhere.
I'd expect season 6 to have the least tracks since I remember it used a lot of temp tracks taken from the Fight the Future movie soundtrack or from its recording sessions (season 5 did this partly as well, since pre-production of Fight the Future was during season 5).

Sounds great to me MV smile

How long ago did Mr. Snow edit these cues and you guys finalized the CD contents? Most of the delays were due to artwork approval and packaging issues right?

Artwork approval was not an issue... it was getting the 4 discs packed with the absolute best material as we could. This is Mr. Snow's baby... his STAR WARS if you will. He, more than any one else, has been wanting to get this out there from the get-go. He wanted to ensure that the best material and the best listening experience was created, but at the same time designing it in such a fashion that us geeks would enjoy as well. It took a lot of finessing... tracks got cut, whole episodes swapped out... thus the reason for the delay

MV

Sounds perfect to me, can't wait to order on Tuesday smile

Does anyone here know how long it takes for Screen Archives to get the new releases in stock? I would love to order the X Files set but I also want to purchase Home Alone from La La Land and also the big Superman box from FSM. I would like to order everything in one big pile because it saves me shipping up here to Canada. I would prefer not to make two different orders if I can help it.
Or, if there are any other sites that sell more than one label of soundtracks that could work as well. I know Intrada does as well and was also wondering when they might show the X Files set as being available.
Thanks to anyone who might be able to help. Cheers and happy shopping on Tuesday!
