"I wouldn't even buy this set for $20"

Not even knowing you could sell it for at least $200 in a month and make a $180 profit? And my wife thought I had lousy business instincts!

minor regrets - only one- Five Fingers included some french songs usually played on a record player, one song of which is important to the plot - Adieu Mon Coeur (sp).

Would love to have that song free of dialogue. Another french song became the Main title theme of Desiree !!!

Does anyone who worked on this project know the name of the vocalist who sang the songs?

------------------------------------------------

I actually had a conversation with Nick Redman at one point about the songs, and, as I recall, he said they had been lost. Too bad, because they're wonderful, and very atmospheric. The singer sounds like an Edith Piaf wannabe. Or, maybe it was Piaf. (Though I doubt it...; she was big at the time, and would definitely have required screen credit.)

Are there any other recordings of these songs? Is there any way to find out what the specific titles are? As I recall, I don't think they're even mentioned in the credits.

The AFI Catalog lists the songs in "5 Fingers" as follows:

"Monsieur Lenoble," music and lyrics by Michel Emer
"Adieu mon coeur," music by Marguerite Monnot, lyrics by Henri Contet
"J'ai peur de t'aimer," music by Alfred Newman, lyrics by Tanis Chandler
"Brunnhilde's Battle Cry" from the opera Die Walküre, music and libretto by Richard Wagner.

There is no indication who any of the singers might be.

Peterproud, keep us informed as to the sales progress of this set. I'm much too scared to type in 700 (or even 500), fearing that my order would somehow go through and I'd be on the hook for more money than my old house cost.

Ordered. Now I can have a few more cues from A Journey To The Center of the Earth. I confess I am unfamiliar to some of these other scores, but I am trying something new. I look forward to it and especially the book! I'm sure this set will look nice sitting next to the Superman Blue Box, Star Trek TNG Ron Jones box, etc on my shelf. Its nice that I live a mere 35 min from Varese so I can go pick it up at that time.

Actually they have recently (and legitimately as far as I can tell), but on vinyl only. And to me it sounds just fine.

Great set and only 400 left at VS. Moving pretty fast given the price.

Far too rich for me. But great for those who love this music and can afford it.

What a lot of great stuff!

Beneath the 12-Mile Reef sounds better than ever.
The last note of "Forever!"
All that new stuff!

Wow!!

There is no way I can afford this set before it sells out (with only 400 left it will be soon). If there is a kind soul out there that can grab one for me that I can re-pay in about two weeks, that would be super fantastic. frown I am good for it, and can be vouched for if that is any consolation.

When people do this cart thing at SAE it's never accurate. And I don't think it is at Varese either. Believe me, none of you have a clew what's left or not left. There may well be seven hundred left, or there may well four hundred left, but if it were the latter you can bet your behind they would have put up a notice already. Use your noggins.

I want this set, but not sure if I can swing it either this month. But it is certainly an exciting and beautiful release!

Update: What the hell...just went for it! I'm really looking for the new material and hearing the results of the better sounding discs!

After a day of consideration, I finally bit. Herrmann is one of my favorites but I've never actually collected much of his music and unlike many here don't have most of these scores yet (except Ghost and Mrs. Muir from the Bernstein Box and Beneath the 12-Mile Reef) and haven't really even heard most of them, so this amounts to largely a blind buy. I'm looking forward to hearing what I've been missing all these years! (Also a major plus that Steven C. Smith is contributing to the book. His biography of Herrmann was a great read.)

haha, I feel ya! I just ordered and I live in Europe (which means almost 1/3 the orignal price more expensive).
But since I only owe FSMs BENEATH THE 12 MILE REEF I figured this would be a good deal for me.

Also an expanded JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH is a dream come true. Somehow, despite adoring that score since childhood, I never bought the old Varese album in all those years. Now I know why, haha. Everything has its reason ;-)

Just popped over at the Intrada website and there's no discussion there at all about this set. What's up with that? Anyway, I'll be picking mine up at the VS offices. Never been there. Never done that. Hope they're ready before Christmas for pick-up.

Wow, we're down to 400 copies? Well, guess I gotta learn to live without it. Shit happens, folks.
