They want a big, popular name for the score, for a marketing reasons, so Zimmer was the only choice. I'm ok with that.
Actually he wasnt the only choice. They initally had a different composer ( Cant remember his name right now but supposedly he was a frequent collaborator with Cary Fukanga. They didnt like his score so replaced him with Zimmer at a very late stage ( Which more than likely cost them big time ).
Oh right! I totally forgot that there was another composer assigned to this movie prior to Zimmer. That feels as if it was a million years ago!
Initially, Dan Romer was attached to compose the score. Romer is a regular composer for Cary Fukunaga but he left the project to be replaced by Team Zimmer.
McDonalds never win awards for food. McDonalds never got critical praise from some of the best in the food industry.
Zimmer on the other hand is one of the most acclaimed composer today (Oscars, Golden Globes, Grammys, Max Steiner, Henry Mancini Award, IFMCA awards, etc.) and has worked with some of the best directors. Multiple directors such as Jenkins and Cameron has called him an all time great. John Debney, his peer, called him a revolutionary.
Standing out amongst the current crop of film composers is hardly a compliment; that bar is set pretty low.
McDonalds is very popular too.
THE most popular.
