Now that Mike has tackled all the Jaws, Superman, Home Alone, Jurassic, and Potter scores, surely Star Wars and Indiana Jones are next on his to-do list with regards to Williams franchise scores. I mean, other than those, it's just one-offs left Williams' filmography left to re-do. Here's hoping Lucasfilm and Disney want this to happen! Another way of looking at is is that if you look at the highest grossing films Williams has scored, you have to go all the way down to #18 (War of the Worlds) to find a score that MM hasn't already redone that isn't a Star Wars or Indiana Jones score. In fact, out of all 31 Williams-scored films that grossed over $100, the only remaining ones for him to pursue beyond franchise scores are #18 War of the Worlds #22 Lincoln #25 Catch Me If You Can #28 Minority Report #29 Hook #30 The Towering Inferno #31 The Patriot

Does anyone know when these start shipping? I placed my order as soon as I saw the announcement and the suspense is killing me! :-) (Although I'm in the UK so fear that I'll have to wait a tad longer than our US brethren to receive my copy.) My order has gone to Awaiting Shipment. I'm sorry for your wait, but this is why the Pilgrims sailed on the Mayflower. I did go back to the Blue Box to compare just from the samples. It's amazing! Luthor's Lethal Weapon (and THANK YOU for breaking that into separate tracks!) sound like it added a whole new section of instruments (at about 0:45 on the sample). (Flutes? Clarinets?) They're there on the Blue Box but the mix is different so I can't hear all the same notes. Wow and wow and wow.

Great podcast. Thanks for posting that. IT SOUNDS SOOOO GOOD! I'm a little pissed that Star Wars doesn't sound that good. Agreed! I ordered the SUPERMAN score as soon as I read the description of the remastering. The next day, I found the track samples and was impressed by the amazing sound quality. Can't wait to open my mailbox and get my hands on the set. I feel the same way as you about wishing STAR WARS could sound that good. There seems to be a huge difference in sound quality between STAR WARS 1977 and EMPIRE 1980. Did microphones and recording techniques improve that much in only three years? Maybe it was the media it was recorded on? I haven't looked into the history of how it was recorded or archived. I hope one day technology will be able to help. Another score, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 1977 seems to suffer the same issue. There is the Intrada release which has a lot of crackling and distortion, clipping I guess you call it. One Amazon reviewer went as far to say it has "abysmal sound quality". But I'm sure Intrada did the best they could with the source material they had to work with. Also, that was remastered in 2011 and perhaps their technology has improved in the past 8 years- it may be time to remaster it again. Then there is the Geffen release where they cleaned it up too much to the point it sounds artificial. It's as if they turned the treble all the way up and there is next to no bass. So I have yet to find a satisfactory release of BSG. I prefer the 1999 rerecording by Varese instead. Anyhow, I suppose I'm rambling on a bit but hopefully you get what I'm saying. I'm just very curious about the history of the recordings and the limitations in fixing them. The problems with Battlestar were inherent in the recording. The only way to fix that is to rerecord the score. Which they did specifically because of the problems, which is what the MCA album is largely. And also by Varese. Although it has it's issues, I find that original recording more vibrant and compelling to listen to. For the original MCA album I have the Edel CD which sounds great to me.

I placed my order as soon as I saw the announcement and the suspense is killing me! :-) (Although I'm in the UK so fear that I'll have to wait a tad longer than our US brethren to receive my copy.) As stated this Friday. We will start shipping on that date. Thus far we have about 1500 orders on the website alone (a new record for a recent title in less than 1 week). We will process and ship them out as quickly as we can. We will be working this weekend to make sure orders get out in a timely manner. We appreciate your patience. Thanks MV

TerraEpon: but I do find the mastering on the Blue Box seems to have a bit more resonance and body, if that makes any sense. My theory on what you've been hearing on all past releases, is that the 1978 original sound engineers imposed a certain Dolby Stereo-ized mix on the remaining extant music stems that passed into production status after the film release. I think they achieved an unsurpassed feat in putting material of this dynamic range into a simple stereo mix for late-'70's reproduction equipment.

Got it! But when do they start shipping? Forget it. With their crappy customer service you'll never get an answer.
