I think the 50-minute program of the old boot is prettty much the perfect program. Does anyone know if it's possible to recreate that program with his legit set?
I’ve listened to the score twice now and can’t help but feel the following.. 1) Similar to thinking about a girlfriend from years ago and how great she was. You pull out an old photo…and realise she wasn’t as great as you thought she was! To me, the best, punchy tracks are those instrumentals of the classic songs. Couple of classic HF synth compositions…but the rest leaves me cold. I KNOW I’m in the minority here but I feel it’s become this legendary score simply because we haven’t had it in our hands. Beverley Hills Cop 1 and 2…Kuffs..Tango and Cash…maybe I was expecting more like that.
For me, Top Gun's music was always the songs and the anthem. Pretty much what we always had. The rest is loud rock music sans lyrics. I've never been a fan of "rock scores" unless it was Flash Gordon.
I'm a supporter of all existing scores being released. It's amazing this bad boy finally got the release demanded for so long. Top Gun, expanded Bond, a deep dive into the Horner catalogue... These are the salad days.
Some great emotional/love stuff too, not just a rock score.

I'm sure you could, but why would you want to eliminate so much newly available great music?

I think I'm going to try this list.
Since it really doesn't have a proper place (so far), I'll slot in "Dog Fight #3" right before "Goose's Death/Memories" just to draw out the suspenseful cues. As for "Take My Breath Away", I think I'll use that as a reprise to close out the playlist and leave "Love Scene" where you have it.
Do the CD liner notes mention that a part of the track "Final confrontation" from Faltermeyer's "Thief of Hearts" was reused in Top Gun? it accompanies the scene where Cougar is chased by a MiG:
2. Now the annoyance...one of the tracks I was most looking forward to, "Viper's House Pt 2" (which contains the part in the film where Maverick leaves Viper's house, sees that Charlie's house is for sale, and sits watching the F-14 at the airfield), is clearly mixed completely differently than the version in the movie. Those magnificent electric guitars as Mav stares in profile just before graduation are completely effed up. They're there for a second (the part when Maverick sees the for sale sign and starts his bike is fine), but then the mix audibly changes and everything gets weird. First they're a bit buried (as Mav rides off), and by the end of the track (the airfield), they're gone entirely. I don't know why this is the case, and I'm a bit ticked about it. It sort of reminds me of the controversy over the opening drone sound being all but missing at the start of the Beverly Hills Cop II score. This is the same type of thing, but IMO worse, because it's the whole crescendo of that piece, not just one missing element. Clearly it's the same...well, I don't know if "take" is the proper terminology when it comes to synths like this, but...you get my meaning. But it's just not what's heard in the film, and that does kind of suck when it's such a big musical moment. To be sure, we're talking here about 37 problematic seconds out of a 2-CD set, but I did think it was worth mentioning.
Yea, the last part of this track is definitely missing the guitar overlay. Not a complaint, just an observation. Grateful to La La Land for the release!

Absolutely. It’s a fantastic set. I combined the first part of the official cue with the end of the bootleg with the proper overlay and replaced that track. I renamed the official cue “Viper’s House Pt. 2 (Alternate)” and threw it at the end of Disc 1.
By the way, after years of wanting a super extended Anthem, I put together my own now that so many elements are available. I think it sounds pretty cool…

I'm guessing it was one of those situations where the guitar and snare was added (or brought up in the mix) in post? Similar to the synths in "War" in Rocky IV?

Since LLL has stated before that this album was approved by Faltermeyer, then it's probably his preferred version of these cues.

As with Rocky IV, I wish we would get some official responses regarding these alternate mixes that are different than what is heard in the films. I'm not bitching, I'm just one of those anal guys that has to know why for everything. Again, I wanna be clear that I appreciate EVERYTHING La La Land and Intrada do! I am forever grateful to them both.
