Hmm, gave this a try. Its kinda video gamey sounding. The cues all sound the same. I'm not a big fan of churchy/monky music. A little goes a long way.
Please explain "video gamey sounding". Is that related to some kind of redundance for you ?
Of course not all video game scores are the same but in general they have a redundancy and I think it boils down to tempo.
Yes - the rise of adaptive game music in the late 2000s - early 2010s shifted a lot of this. Tracks became a lot more ambient with rhythm and tempo changing slightly for the different “moods”. And at that time games were trying to become more cinematic and movies were trying to become more exciting like games. So the film music followed suit and ended up becoming equally interchangeable and composed for general moods. I hate Remote Control Productions.
There are some scores I've liked by HGW over the years (but not that many, if I'm honest*), but I too, sought out both KINGDOM OF HEAVEN** and that animated SINBAD score he did, after reading all the high praise they garnered around here. But neither ever made any lasting impression upon me either. They're not terrible in any way. But they just sounded unmemorable and unremarkable to me.
*his NARNIA music is decent and I like that Fields Of Athenry track from that murdered Irish journalist film..

Because Ridley Scott butchered the score, and put in the movie tracks from Jerry Goldsmith and Marco Beltrami?
Yes, and the HGW's work in that movie (if you listen the score he make) is FUCK***G good.

Yeah, KOH isn't bad. It's well done for what it is. The score just doesn't grab me. I do love Sinbad though. The Sirens cue is pure genius.
