2 weeks today, we shall know the 5 titles!

Had to recheck the calendar. I thought Black Friday was this upcoming Friday. Boy was I surprised.

Really? Thanksgiving is the last Thursday before the last Saturday in November. So this year it's as late as it can get.

Talk of Columbo reminds me to mention again the excellent Bernardo Segall (who wrote ten of the Columbo scores) and in particular, his fine score for CUSTER OF THE WEST that fully deserves a proper CD release (to replace the poor-sounding old unmentionable on the so-called Comanche label from decades ago).

It's during season 1 that the musical template is set thanks to Billy Goldenberg and starting from the 1971 pilot "Ransom for a Dead Man" which ends up with the theme of Columbo played by a saxophone.

Furthermore, season 1 has the best ensemble of composers (Goldenberg/Mellé) and all the scores are excellent which is not the case with the remaining seasons. Even though season 2 and 3 are quiet strong because of Goldenberg’s artistical input. Past that, it is more or less bland because the maestro was gone.

]

I actually think season 2 and 3 are just as good as season one, and some of the scores from 2 and 3 are better than some of season 1's offerings. I agree about season 4-6, although there are still some gems like Forgotten Lady, Now You See Him and Last Salute to the Commodore. But you are forgetting the very criminally underrated (musically and just overall in general) final season 7. VII actually has fantastic scores for every single episode. Try and Catch Me, Murder Under Glass, Make Me a Perfect Murder, How to Dial a Murder and The Conspirators are all amazing and can hang with the best of season 1-3's scores.

I've gone through every episode for season I - III and working on the rest to see how much music was in Columbo. I am not documenting source music, as a lot of Columbo's source music (though not all) was actually just stock library music from Universal that was used on many of their other shows at the time, too. Season I clocked in at 146 minutes for me, which would just barely squeeze onto 2 discs (and this is not including source music).

Agreed. I hope they don’t overlook the later seasons.
Make me a Perfect Murder is one of the best Columbo scores hands down.

Black Friday is on November 28. Less than two weeks to wait for …

Let's hope we get a Silver Age title by John Williams:
Sugarland Express
The Eiger Sanction
The Towering Inferno

There have been a few unusually low priced listings for Goodbye Mr. Chips on eBay in the past few days... Just sayin'.

An expanded/remastered Eiger Sanction with both the LP and film tracks would make for a splendid release (and both would probably fit on one CD).

The NBC Columbo scores in the 70s were obviously fabulous but the second Columbo series on ABC also had great scores in it. I am quite fond of the Patrick Williams and John Cacavas scores for the first ABC season in 1989. Several scores in the nineties would also be worth to put on disc... Let's hope that the Universal Heritage Collection from LLL allows Columbo to finally have a nice box set one day... My expectations to have a Columbo set on Black Friday are quite low but I hope 2020 can be a possibility!

I seem to recall La La Land stating that the Black Friday release of last year was 'lightning in a bottle' compared to this year's Black Friday releases. Set expectations accordingly.

Yeah, it was in this thread:

"5 releases planned for Black Friday. I'm sure we will anger/disappoint most of you. Do NOT expect anything like last year's batch. That was lightening in a bottle.
