Hurwitz's cat should have waited to appear until he discussed the Webb album!
I remember buying that CD on impulse when it was first released, because of Morgan and Stromberg, but also that great cover (if confusingly titled). So it became a great intro into the underrated music of Roy Webb.
"Over the past three or four decades I have seen the rise of film music as a medium to be taken seriously by classical music lovers."
That happens to be for as long as I have championed or defended music in classical music forums. :-D
"Wagner wrote film scores essentially" (Says Hurwitz at 6:30) Indeed, that's what I've been saying that since I started to listen to film music. Wagner's music exclusively exists to enhance the drama, which is basically the primary object of film music as well.
