Thanks Mike for your detailed response and thanks Jason for your extremely fast reply - both is highly appreciated!
One more question though: is the same true for the 2012 release? The film version on the second disc being by Ralph Grierson and the version on the first disc being by Michael Lang?
I'm mainly asking because the playing times of the supposed Michael Lang track differ so much: 2:25 vs. 4:24!
Mike Lang performed on the original composition (1M4 Yuppie Sounds) on October 26th, 1991 at Fox, recorded by Armin Steiner. This recording was released as "Banning Back Home (Extended Version)" on the Ultimate Edition, was was previously available in edited form as "Banning Back Home" on the original soundtrack album (carried over onto the 2012 expansion).
At some point after it was recorded, the footage in the sequence was changed around (and shortened), so a revised composition (1M3B Yuppie Sounds) was recorded at MGM by Shawn Murphy on November 13th, 1991 with Ralph Grierson. This version is "Banning Back Home (Film Version)" on the Ultimate Edition. The 2012 release had this composition taken off the film's music stem (so took with it any edits made for the final dub), but on the Ultimate Edition it's from the same 1st generation master as the rest of the score.
Hey Jason or Mike, I have another question about Banning Back Home if you're up for answering it. I cut together the OST from the Ultimate Edition and discovered one note (literally) I couldn't find. There is a double drumbeat at about 1:53 on the OST. The same moment is at 2:04 on Banning Back Home (Extended Version), but it only has a single drumbeat. I didn't find the double-drum anywhere else. Do you know if it was created editorially, or is it performance and I just missed it?

Man, I really want this now after listening to both parts of that show. I have been patiently waiting for what I hoped would at least be a rerelease (since I missed the first LLL edition) so the extra disc is just a dream come true. Hope LLL gets this back in stock soon!
I was able to get in an order on Christmas Day while it was briefly in stock again and my CC has been charged, but it's now 1/9 and my order is still "Awaiting Fulfillment". I hope it's just delays in getting back to shipping orders after the holidays!
Mike Matessino, I just wanted to share that I got to see Hook in the theaters twice upon release. The first time, I was alone. The second time, was with my parents the night before I was to fly out after having been sworn in and enlisted in the Air Force. My mother, after watching the film with me, wrote me a letter to take with me and read on the way to San Antonio, Texas. In it, she described the joy she had upon my birth compared to Peter's joy in the memory of his firstborn son, Jack in the film. The next year, I was listening to The Face of Pan on the original soundtrack as I walked off the plane and met my parents in the airport six months later.
This new soundtrack brings all those memories back, fresh, with every listen. To you, Jason, John, John Williams, Leslie Bricusse, and Steven Spielberg, you've made the last 33 years worth the wait. Thank you.
I already loved the HOOK score it's one of my all time favorites, but this new release is sensational! BTW, I remember going to the opening of The Mall of America back in August 1992 and thought Camp Snoopy, as it was called at the time, kind of looked like Neverland from HOOK.

What a fabulous and entertaining discussion on the score with all those details coming out of the themes and the songs that are so integral to the narrative. I didnt want this discsussion to end. Maybe a third podcast ?
My apologies if I missed this in the liner notes and supplemental booklet but I don't think it is listed. Who are the vocalists on the following tracks?
Disc 1, Track 2 and Disc 3, Track 1 - We Don't Wanna Grow Up Disc 3, Track 2 - God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen Disc 3, Track 11 - The Never Song Disc 3, Track 16 - Stick With Me
And thank you all for this magnificent release. It's a real treasure and elevated my appreciation for this score.

Thanks for your prompt response, Jason, but really? No clue? Guesses?
I only ask again because everything else was so painstakenly researched.
[Edit] Again, bravo for this release. It is nothing if not thoroughly complete. Release of the year contender.
The songs were sent to many of the singers on the project and to key people in the session singer community going back nearly two years, and no one could ID those voices. (And I was quite paranoid that doing this would result in news about the release leaking out!)
The Guild ultimately asserted that our efforts were satisfactory and that we could proceed with the release of the tracks, with the understanding that payment in kind would be made if we ever find out who the voices are, and also that I see that their credits are added to any new printings of the packaging, plus update the metadata.
The Guild actually didn't have anything on file for the movie whatsoever, not even the choir list (yet they did on the Home Alone scores, so it's a mystery).
