1. Any place in the film that has versions of songs that are *mostly* instrumental, but contain a few vocal flourishes here and there are totally instrumental on this presentation, so they're not - strictly speaking - the versions as heard in the film. Not that I'm upset about this choice, it does make sense...but you'll miss that opening "oooo" in Mighty Wings during "Jester Flying", for example. And unfortunately, it also means we lose the “mmmm’s” during the TMBA instrumental when Charlie is chasing Maverick in her car — I say unfortunately because those don’t even exist in the vocal version. Anyway, obviously this was intentional, so I wouldn't exactly say it’s a problem…just takes a second to get used to how they're choosing to present it. The strange this is that it actually refers to this type of vocal flourish (in the context of the romantic scenes) in the booklet notes (on page 15)... 2. Now the annoyance...one of the tracks I was most looking forward to, "Viper's House Pt 2" (which contains the part in the film where Maverick leaves Viper's house, sees that Charlie's house is for sale, and sits watching the F-14 at the airfield), is clearly mixed completely differently than the version in the movie. Those magnificent electric guitars as Mav stares in profile just before graduation are completely effed up. They're there for a second (the part when Maverick sees the for sale sign and starts his bike is fine), but then the mix audibly changes and everything gets weird. First they're a bit buried (as Mav rides off), and by the end of the track (the airfield), they're gone entirely. I don't know why this is the case, and I'm a bit ticked about it. It sort of reminds me of the controversy over the opening drone sound being all but missing at the start of the Beverly Hills Cop II score. This is the same type of thing, but IMO worse, because it's the whole crescendo of that piece, not just one missing element. Clearly it's the same...well, I don't know if "take" is the proper terminology when it comes to synths like this, but...you get my meaning. But it's just not what's heard in the film, and that does kind of suck when it's such a big musical moment. To be sure, we're talking here about 37 problematic seconds out of a 2-CD set, but I did think it was worth mentioning. Oomph don't mention weird mixes and missing instruments... I still haven't recovered from Octopussy!

Great job on this release. Been listening to it a lot and it sounds FANTASTIC. Plus it’s nice to have literally all the songs on the second disc. That must have costed a fortune, but typical of LLL, they want us to have the absolute best. WELL DONE !!

I guess one shouldn't procrastinate on these big releases if one is hoping to get it before having to wait on a restock. Wonder when it will be back up for grabs?
