TUESDAY, APRIL 20

THE LORD OF THE RINGS---the Amazon tv series will reportedly cost $465 million just for Season 1. By comparison, HBO's GAME OF THRONES cost about $100 million per season. All five seasons will reportedly film in New Zealand. Stuart Nash, New Zealand's minister for economic development and tourism said, “What I can tell you is Amazon is going to spend about $650 million [New Zealand dollars] in Season 1 alone…This is fantastic, it really is…this will be the largest television series ever made.”

THE FLASH---Michael Keaton was confirmed to be returning as Batman for the Warner Bros/DC Films movie.

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDERVERSE---Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson will direct the sequel.

ROBERT DE NIRO---Robert De Niro is divorcing his estranged wife, Grace Hightower. His attorney claimed he is working excessively just to keep up with his payments to her as agreed in their 2004 prenuptial agreement, "Mr. De Niro is 77 years old, and while he loves his craft, he should not be forced to work at this prodigious pace because he has to. He could get sick tomorrow, and the party's over. When does that stop? When does he get the opportunity to not take every project that comes along and not work six-day weeks, 12-hour days so he can keep pace with Ms. Hightower's thirst for Stella McCartney?"
Their prenuptial agreement says that De Niro will pay her $1 million if his salary is $15 million or more a year but will decline proportionately to his salary. As of January, 2021, her monthly payments have dropped from $375,000 to $100,000. De Niro claims Hightower is spending extravagantly and bought a $1.2 million diamond in 2019.

ROCK 'EM SOCK 'EM ROBOTS---Vin Diesel will star in the movie based on the Mattel robot toys in which a father and son befriend a high tech robot war machine.

FLORIDA MAN---Edgar Ramirez will star in this Netflix miniseries about an ex-cop who returns to Florida and meets a Philadelphia mobster's runaway girlfriend which leads a series of dramatic events.

WINGS OF FIRE---Netflix/Ava DuVernay animated miniseries underway based on the fantasy books.

Netflix---Netflix renewed both DOTA: DRAGON'S BLOOD and GINNY & GEORGIA for Season 2.

GUESS WHO?---NBC competition tv series underway based on the Hasbro board game.

JOE EXOTIC---John Cameron Mitchell will play Joe Exotic in the NBC/Peacock miniseries that also stars Kate McKinnon.

TRIVIA---character actor Woodrow Parfey is perhaps best known known for playing the diner cook Jaffe in DIRTY HARRY and Dr. Maximus in the original PLANET OF THE APES. He also played a fellow prisoner with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman in PAPILLON. Ironically, during World War II, Parfrey was wounded and captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge. In the POW camp, most of Parfrey's regiment died of starvation. When he was freed from the camp, he weighed only 60 pounds. His son, underground publisher Adam Parfrey, said his POW experience made him detest the Germans, “He never wanted to talk about the war. He hated the Germans and the Nazis. That’s why we never had a Volkswagen or a German shepherd.”

Ha, poor old De Niro. It seems like there's first world problems & then there's Hollywood film star problems. So he gets over $15 million for a film, & he has to pay $1 million to his ex (which I presume is tax deductible), that leaves him a fair bit of change. He's 77, how much money does he need?

RAMEAU:

I've seen a lot comments on FSM about why De Niro is making so many crappy movies lately----now you know why.

Got to agree here. Same with our (UK) royalty. At what point do we start to feel sorry for people so stinking rich they get upset about being divested of some of their stash?? These people will NEVER have to worry about where their next meal's comin' from. Sheesh.

And here I am every time I walk past some poor bastard in the street! And I'm on (next to) minimum wage for God's sake.

And I still fall for cds of film scores I actually stretch for...

So, this new Lord Of The Rings is set thousands of years before the events in the book. Good, they now have free range to do whatever they like in Middle Earth. Hopefully a bit bloodier & earthier than the trilogy, I don't necessarily mean shagging, but a bit less twee, after Game Of Thrones there's no going back, & it won't have annoying characters like Pippin, Merry & Sam.

That car advert that DeNiro did - the one where he turns up dressed like a complete wanker and which I'm sure he got paid a pretty penny for - competely ruined EVERYTHING I've ever seen DeNiro in forever.
Talk about pissing on your legacy.

Also DeNiro was in that Warburtons bagels advert. That must've cost a spread or two.

Stallone and DeNiro have both done Warburton ads. I think it's a rite of passage for Hollywood stars to go to Bolton.

BILLCARSON:

Many years ago, I saw a sad war story told by DeForest Kelley. I'll see if I can find it again.

(THE LORD OF THE RINGS---the Amazon tv series will reportedly cost $465 million just for Season 1.)

In totally unrelated news, Amazon is increasing its annual fee to $399.95.

I hear that they will even send you a picture of the special effect you helped sponsor. "You know that digital Ent that Weedamir accidentally pissed on in Season 2, Episode 5? Yep, I paid for the second-to-lowest branch. Hold on a sec, I have a photo of it right here in my wallet next to my wife's sonogram..."

RE: De Niro- Stop working and you won't have to pay your EX anything. Problem solved. Should have enough in the bank to live out his days.

Disagree. Don't want another GOT's clone with its excesses. Everything is like GOT's now.
LOTR's was a great fantasy that had the perfect balance between fantasy and realism. Its not like it didn't have its fair share of decapitations. Pippin, Merry & Sam were essential and brought charm to the story.

Like that's not confusing at all. The DCU is really messed up.

On another forum, a reply to Woodrow Parfrey said:

"My uncle was also captured in the BotB in the first few days of the battle... 106th Golden Lions in the Schnee Eifel ... Unlike the 'historical' accounts, they heard tanks moving up for days before the opening artillery barrage on Dec 16th... Captured on Dec 19th... Many of his reg't also died of starvation... When he was freed, he had dropped from 140 lbs to 90 lbs... Next to his Stalag was a Soviet POW camp; the Krauts gave all of the red cross parcels to the rooshians to curry favor with them... "

The Germans were terrified of the oncoming Russians, particularly after Germany invaded the USSR and slaughtered POWs, men women and children en masse. I read the German women who were raped by Russian troops in the siege of Berlin was astronomical---which is why so many Germans fled west to surrender to the US and British troops.

Yes. When the Third Reich trained upon Russia, their aim was to cleanse the land of Communism, Communists, and Russians themselves. Early seeds planted and encouraged by industrialists who were aghast at the prospect of workers having government power. Most atrocities were officially committed by follow-up execution squads - where mass starvation might not be swift enough - but the reality was that rank & file troops were hardly charitable.

Some talk existed of marshalling the Russian peasants' genuine hatred of the oppression & tyranny of the Stalin regime they suffered under, instead of just slaughtering them, but it didn't overtake Nazi zeal. Starvation, execution, and deportation to camps. The Russian offensive was arguably fair, horrible retribution.
