The sources say Kennedy's decision to have a female Indiana Jones is a "big, bold" change in the movie franchise. Kennedy's spokesperson "declined to comment" on the rumor.
Another rumor claims Waller-Bridge plays Indiana Jones's assistant in INDIANA JONES 5.

LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND---Mahershala Ali and Julia Roberts star in this Netflix movie based on the novel. Sam Esmail (MR. ROBOT) is the writer/director.

GRENDEL---Netflix tv series based on the Dark Horse comic book is underway. Abubakr Ali will star which makes him "the first Arab Muslim male actor to portray a series lead in a comic book adaptation”.

TRIVIA---British character actor Percy Herbert co-starred in two of special effects legend Ray Harryhausen's monster movies: MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. Herbert played Sergeant Pencroft in MYSTERIOUS ISLAND, and he played caveman villain Sakana in ONE MILLION YEARS B.C.

Percy Herbert played Sergeant Pencroft in Ray Harryhausen's MYSTERIOUS ISLAND.

Pencroft is grabbed by Harryhausen's giant Cephalopod in MYSTERIOUS ISLAND.

Bullshit. This was a rumor started by the Daily Mail, which is just a rag that writes unsubstantiated rumors to sell copies.

That said, thank you for your continued work Dragon. Your posts are really the only reason I come back to this board.

They probably stole it from a reddit post - that's their favourite journalistic move. Also not proofreading any of their headlines, which are error-riddled to the point of I think bots create them.

Excellent news! We have really been enjoying this show. Hopefully they can maintain the quality of the first season in their second season. (At least what we've seen of it so far.)

I will believe this when I see it. A film like this only works if Disney throws an Avengers Infinity War/Endgame level budget to make it and is able to get the vast majority of the MCU actors to reprise their roles. I just don't see there being a big enough audience for something like that. Yes, there is a history of Marvel Zombies in the comics, and the What-If? episode was fun, but is there anywhere near the level of interest needed to get it off the ground?

It may well be a Grade A - B.S rumour, but can I just say, I'd LOVE to see Phoebe Waller Bridge become the new Indiana Jones.
It would be a HOOT (and I also must say, I liked her in that BBC comedy series and I find her to be the most quirkily/offbeat sexually attractive young lady I've seen in ages).

Percy Herbert (great name!) was a bit of a legend in British cinema, he was in so many low budget war films, & comedy films & all sorts, he worked with so many people (he was also in many big films like, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Guns of Navarone & Mutiny on the Bounty, & not forgetting the TV western, Cimarron Strip (1968) with Stuart Whitman). He should have written a bio, I bet he had some great stories to tell.

...& where war's concerned, like many actors of his time he fought in the real thing, he was captured by the Japanese army and interned in a POW camp for 4 years. He once spent six months in the cooler for stealing a tin of corned beef.

Sad thing is its not so unbelievable. So who knows? Probably ends up being true even if the news is "fake".

Yes it is. If Spielberg didn't do it with Ratboy at the end of Indy 4, like hell a new director is gonna try that with someone else's trademark franchise. Plus, it cuts too close to Lara Croft.

"Ratboy" as you call him didn't take over the role because (A) he was a douchebag and Spielberg hated him. (B) Crystal Skull was universally panned. And the agenda in Hollywood (and KK) is out there for all to see.

I really do enjoy threads that expose the misogynistic tendencies of it's user base when they're presented with just the idea of a female successor to a male character. It's never about 'Can they make it work?' but always 'How dare they even try!'. We haven't even seen a preview to this movie yet.

Come on. It's not like the things that made Indiana Jones a trademark for Spielberg were on full display with 'Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'. Outside of Temple of Doom, the only thing Spielberg has done with Indiana Jones is repeat the Raiders' storyline only with less effort on his part to maintain audience's suspension of disbelief.

Plus, it cuts too close to Lara Croft.

Maybe you haven't been keeping up on current Hollywood trends, but cutting too close to something else isn't really a bad thing in and of itself. How many people have compared 'Nobody' to 'John Wick' yet still came out loving both movies? It's ok to make something like something else so long as it's able to stand on it's own.

And seriously, Lara Croft? You have not seen enough Phoebe Waller-Bridge material if you think that's the only kind of character she'll be playing in this franchise. Phoebe has a personality and charm that would be completely wasted on a character like that. That's not to say that Lara Croft is a bad character or that Phoebe shouldn't play her even if she wanted to, but if you ask people who know her work about being in an Indiana Jones movie, Lara Croft will not enter their minds once.

I really enjoy threads that show the pot calling the kettle black in the first sentence.

I'm so burnt out responding to those kinda trite comments. Nicely said, short and sweet.

We can talk about nice things involving Phoebe being in the next Indy film if you want. You want to talk about the lack of Mutt? I think everyone is happy over that decision.

Sorry, but the outrage isn’t anything to do with a new character, it is the suggestion that Indiana Jones might be portrayed by an actress. Not wanting to see one of the most classic characters in the history of the movie change genders has nothing to do with misogyny at all - the idea of making Indy female is a bloody ridiculous idea and if there is any truth in it at all it just demonstrates how creatively bankrupt Hollywood is these days. I have no problem with a spin off character getting her own franchise (although I doubt it will happen - remember the Jinx movie the Bond producers were trying to do after Die Another Day?) but the idea of Indy switching genders is just utterly pathetic.

It’s the same with all these woke people saying that the next Bond should be black. Negative reaction to that suggestion is not racist any more than the situation here is misogynistic- it is just about fundamentally changing a classic character just for the sake of it.

So yes I’m totally in the “how dare they even try” camp. But hey, since you want us to all embrace the “can they make it work” angle, how about Shaft being played by Jackie Chan? Rocky being played by Jim Parsons? Darth Vader could be voiced by someone doing a Kenneth Williams voice and in the same film R2 D2 could be portrayed by Zoe Saldana (just painted blue and white). Plus I think Miss Marple would be great portrayed by Dwayne Johnson.

Indiana Jones is a bloke! And a bloke called Harrison Ford. If they want Phoebe Waller-Bridge to play an adventurous archaeologist, fine, create an original character...just like they did with Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

Ok, hold on a second.

'a British tabloid said "insiders" claim Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy has chosen INDIANA JONES 5 co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge to be Harrison's Ford's successor as the next Indiana Jones.'

I did not interpret that quote to be a 'literal' indication that Phoebe Waller-Bridge was going to be THE Indiana Jones. Just that her character would be the successor to Indiana Jones' role and further stories would be following her 'original' character moving forward, like you mentioned later in your post.

But even if that was the case, how would it even work? Would it be a body swap? That would very unfortunate because now that poor woman's soul would be trapped in Indy's body. Is it going to be an alternate reality Indiana Jones who was female? I can see that happening. After all, when you're dealing with a franchise where all religions exist in the literal sense and dimensional traveling aliens can break apart into multiple selves, the idea of Indiana Jones (Or 'A' Indiana Jones) being a woman wouldn't be the craziest thing to happen.

I don't think that's going to be the case here.

It doesn't matter if she's Indiana Jones, why not have the son of Indiana take over the series? I know it didn't work out with Mutt but they could try again. Why is the default anyone but a white male character?

A female replaced Hawkeye, Iron Man, Luke Skywalker, a female will (might) replace Indiana Jones. A female replaced John Conner, Doctor Who, 007. A female (child!) replaced The Rocketter. (soon to be a black dude) The next Predator film will have a Native American female breaking the glass ceiling. (LMAO) We've already had all female groups with Ghostbusters, Oceans 8 (?), Terminator, and Avengers. (I'm sure I'm forgetting something) Isn't there an all female F&F movie in the works too?

The list goes on and on replacing classic white male characters with females or minorities. (not to mention every classic ginger character has been replaced by someone of color) Even films and TV series with white male leads are dominated by female characters like Star Trek, Picard, Masters of the Universe, Loki, Ant-Man and I'm sure it will be the same with Dr Strange 2.

Hollywood used to create original iconic female characters, why can't they do so now? I would be against changing a classic female character into a man. I would barf at the idea of a Prince Leia or Larry Croft, or Mr Ripley.
