I am actually more of a Christian Bale fan, but I have just seen "BLOOD DIAMOND" and this is by far DiCaprio´s best performance. Maybe, it is because he isn´t just the posterboy, but a charachter with edges. He also impressed me in "THE DEPARTED. Very good actor, but I still prefer Christian Bale.

I haven't seen "Blood Diamond" or "The Departed", but plan to eventually. The reason I clicked on this tread was I thought it may be a thumbs up for his documentary "The 11th Hour". Haven't seen that yet either, but am looking forward to it. My opionion of Mr. DiCaprio has risen considerably after learning about his concern regarding the problems we are currently facing.

have no interest in DiCaprio's opinion on the environment.

he needs to keep to acting in movies like The Departed.

I was hoping Leo would pull a Harvey Keitel and do a full frontal in THE DEPARTED. Then he would certainly rate in the character actor department rather than only a pretty boy lead.

He's done a few good things (such as the often-hailed WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE?), but mostly, he doesn't do much for me. A little too "wuzzy".

I used to think DiCaprio was just bones covered with skin, but he has literally filled out and emerged as a fine actor. He really sinks into his roles. Bale for me is a wonderful actor who just keeps getting better and better. He was Oscar worthy in 3:10 To Yuma.

Another actor that just keeps growing is Mark Wahlberg. He was fine in The Departed and excellent in the unheralded and rather unnoticed Four Brothers.

Finally, I think we will see more solid acting from the youthful Joseph Gordon-Levitt. His last movie, The Lookout, is now out in DVD.

He's still Marky Mark!

Indeed he is. IMO, he's just a tiny notch above the likes of Adam Sandler and Keanu Reeves. And yes, I've seen THE DEPARTED.

Christian Bale gets better and better. Leo gets better and better. Mark Wahlberg gets better and better.

It's perfectly okay to have a favorite, and it is also permissible to admire the work of others.

This needn't be like the stupid "Jerry-vs.-Johnny war" in which you could not like one if you liked the other. That was for dyed-in-the-wool loser nerds ONLY.

It isn't to me that Leo is always consistent but that when he's great he's above his class. Gilbert Grape, The Aviator, and I would vaguely remember adding Shutter Island. smile

Never found him convincing in anything. Other than Titanic which he was born to play.

Favorite Leo performances? Mine are:

Catch Me If You Can
Gangs of New York
[I didn't pay much attention to him until 2002.]
The Departed
Shutter Island
Inception
[Shutter and Inception are his two great ones for me, and in both he's haunted by a dead wife.]
The Great Gatsby
Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood

[the absence of Titanic is intentional - can't stand that movie. I still would like to see his early What's Eating Gilbert Grape, though.]

Call it a necessity of the role, but it seems to me that Leo has done his "Southern Fried" accent (think Paul Newman in his 1958-63 period) in several of his films recently. A little more variety with the character voices would be nice.

I think he is great. Best movies: This Boy's Life (with DeNiro, 2 of the best in one), Catch Me If You Can, Gangs of new York, The Aviator, The Departed, Inception, Wolf of Wall Street, and The Revenant.

I thought he was dire in Titanic, but pretty decent in anything else I've seen him. Favourites are Catch Me If You Can and The Aviator.

He was good in The Revenant as well, though I found that film a tough watch.
