I'm not happy summer is almost over, but I am excited for the Minnesota State Fair. I can't wait, hopefully I am going this Thursday or Friday. Who else is excited about the fair?

The farm "fairs" of the midwest had a somewhat nostalgic, rural, and unique quality about them.

Though we have a county fair here in Los Angeles each year, it's not really quite the same.

But I suspect that as big business takes over agriculture, the rural fairs are going to change considerably over the coming years, too.

No more home-made dill pickles and mince-meat pie! smile

And that is an American tragedy, IMO.

Oh,well...at least down South folks who do those sorts of things run roadside stands where one can buy homemade goodies like that.

Our county fair (going on right now), is still all about farm animals and homemade pies and pickles and such. It has rides, and shows and such, as well, but all the events are right out of State Fair.

We have a county fair, too, which has already come and gone. I haven't attended this in years, but it was fun back in the day. Have fun, henry! smile

Every time I see this thread, I think it's about the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical films.

It makes me think Rob Marshall is going to tackle it for the movies ONE MORE TIME!

Nobody particularly interesting is playing at our State Fair here in California this year. Last year I saw Huey Lewis and the News there, and it was a terrific show. Got right up against the stage. My favorite concert yet!

Our county fair had The Beach Boys and The Temptations a couple weeks ago, but I couldn't make either one. (I last saw The Beach Boys in 1989!)

I am seeing Gin Blossoms tomorrow evening, but at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and not any kind of fair.

I used to go to our county fair every year. I miss those days. Anyway, have a good time and enjoy the unique setting of the fair, Henry.

Awww, and here I thought perhaps the Rodgers & Hammerstein film was finally making its way to Blu-ray. smile

I've never been to a state fair but would love to go sometime. Post some pix if you go!
