639. I just unearthed this BillCarson classic from my hallowed, labor-of-love "For Those Who Like L.A. Confidential.." thread. Apologies to Bill for making him wait nine years until I finally included it here. As further reparation, I'll lend Bill my Navarone playset.

"I also read the Dirty dozen by e. m. Nathanson. - tucked inside my school text books at every opportunity.

"All went fine till - when asked a question by our teacher, Mr Major - ...i called him..Mr Reismann!"

640. Hurdy Gurdy's lovely review of the Dylan biopic in "What Movie Did You Watch?":

A COMPLETE UNKNOWN - 8/10

"Tim Chalamet continues to be the best young actor of his generation, with this potentially Oscar winning turn as young Mr Zimmerman, travelling to New York to visit Woody Guthrie in hospital, before forging a career as a beatnik folk-singer poet-turned superstar.

In a film full of likeable characters, Dylan is the one unlikeable one. Stubborn, rude, obnoxious, selfish...

He uses and abuses anyone who helped him along, on his self-centred path to superstardom.
Kudos to Dylan himself for not white-washing the story/film and admitting that was how he was.
James Mangold returns to good filmmaking, after the fright-fest debacle that was Indiana Jones 5.
It's a great film, totally engrossing from start to finish, with some fine vocal performances from the leads (and the actress playing Joan Baez is so naturally beautiful she was mesmerising).
Good stuff."

Why did I select this post among my favorites? Either I'm too sensitive, or else I'm gettin' soft...

Have you seen the film, Jim?

Have you seen the film, Jim?

No, but I know the era, the story, and Dylan's reputation...not to mention his music.

I'm surprised a film like that actually got made in this day and age. After all, Dylan is largely unknown by anyone under 60, no thanks to his music being absent from the radio waves for the past 30 years; the demise of oldies stations made sure of that.

It is quite funny watching the filmmakers try and elicit NUCLEAR MELTDOWN LEVEL death and destruction at the, wait for it...Newport Folk Festival, cos Dylan wants to sing his new 'electric' songs, while the crowd and organisers want the previous acoustic favourites.

641. Mr. Phelps in the "Bill Carson's FSM 2024 Man of the Year Award" thread reveling in all the perks bestowed upon him after becoming the 2024 winner!

Since I was awarded 2024 FSM Man of the Year, my life has changed for the better.

The head waiter at my favorite Scottish restaurant, MacDonald's, seats me at the best table.

The red lights in traffic now turn green about a minute or so after I arrive.

People who otherwise wouldn't speak to me reply when I ask them the time of day.

Winning FSM Man of the Year has truly been life changing.

642. henry, asking about updates regarding the Bob Peak concert while brushing aside a creepy thread bully--twice-- in "L.A. Film Orchestra- Paintings of Bob Peak Concert":

Thread Bully: "Why keep bumping something when there is ZERO news?"

henry: "I’m sorry, I’m just fishing for any news of the cd release." smile

"Does anyone have an update on the cd, I can’t find any info on it?"

643. Mr. Phelps still killing it in the "Bill Carson's FSM 2024 Man of the Year Award thread".

Since winning FSM's Man of the Year, there have been some lucrative offers I've been forced to respectfully decline, as my now-busy schedule makes accepting such offers, enticing as they are, prohibitive.

1) A four-hour career retrospective on noted FSMer Yavar Moradi's podcast.

2) An interview with Howard L on his Twilight Zone-Route 66-Early Boomer Years blog.

3) A guest post on Lukas Kendall's personal website.

4) Ghost writing some superficially researched liner notes for jeff bond while he attends some (mandatory) court dates.

5) Contributing voiceover for a potential animated Splash Mountain-Song of the South crossover film.

I do what I can, especially since the mainstream side of the board has largely been an insufferable bore for at least ten years.

What do you expect from a bunch of geriatrics who's interest include dead composers and a live action cartoon remake of a cartoon?

I long ago learned to ignore the geriatrics with their squinty bastard avatars, but at least they like the same composers as I do. Now I'm doing the same in ignoring ASD-addled Gen Z.

How was my post a personal attack? Do you know how many times Ive been slandered on this forum with no repercussions? Seems some members can get content deleted and threads locked at will.

Best to take up the issue with LK via email. Let's keep this thread free of too much controversy.

We expect informed, intelligent and meaninfgul comments or commentary instead of what we most often get.

We expect well-rounded musical interests that speak of literacy instead of musical poverty.

We love enthusiasm and some negativity with supporting reasoning.

We seldom get any of this.

We do get posturing, jejune put-downs and poorly thought out slams.

I missed what happened here, but Solium is a great friend and has always been very kind to me. We don’t always agree on everything, but always get along well. He’s a good egg!smile
