"Virginia Slims - 'a woman's cigarette.' What, so the cigarettes have little breasts on them?"
---Steve Martin, 1977

I was actually going to quote this joke!
But I was going to try and pass it off as my own, thinking that no one besides me went back that far--thwarted yet again!!

I have been on this board a very long time and I don't think we've ever had a single back and forth before this one. I enjoy reading your posts, Octoberman.

Everyone should have a friend like me.
And call me Ock.
All good folks call me Ock.
big grin

K or T it's all good to me.
I just thought the K rolls off the tongue/keyboard easier.

Heh, I'm relatively a newborn babe compared to some of the lifers that are still here.
By the way, I enjoy your posts too, Amigo.

How many ladies were glad to hear that "You've come a long way, baby, to get where you've got to, today!"?

smile

Oh yeah, that would go over real well today. LOL. It was actually a cigarette commercial aimed at women. I was a kid when this commercial was broadcast and I remember that jingle. And this thing ran at least 40 years ago if not more so the jingle writer or writers (probably male and smokers themselves) did such a damn' good job of pounding it into our heads so well that the memory of it has lasted decades.

Don't remember the brand they were hawking though. LOL. Maybe they didn't do such a good job after all. This old ad is probably up on You Tube someplace but I have absolutely no desire to look it up.

Final verse:

"You've got your own cigarette now baby, you've come a long long way."

Lord help me that I actually remembered this! big grin

Super model Cheryl Tiegs did a lot of ads for Virginia Slims. Women have come a long way indeed, they to can suffer obesity, cancer, diabetes, back problems, multiple amputees, and shorter live spans just like men now.

What's with the Tall Guy and Dogbelle bromance?

Hey jackfu, speaking of commercials that would never get made today do you remember this one for Noxzema with Joe Namath and Farrah Fawcett?

Hey! That was Joe was in that commercial?! I must have been distracted when watching it back in the day!

wink

Virginia Slims is a brand of cigarettes (Wiki):
"Virginia Slims were introduced on July 22, 1968 and marketed as a female-oriented spinoff to their Benson & Hedges brand. The blends, flavorings, color scheme, and overall marketing concepts closely followed the Benson and Hedges model. Early packs (1968-1978) read "Benson and Hedges Park Avenue New York", near the bottom.

Virginia Slims are narrower (23 mm (0.91 in) circumference) than standard cigarettes (hence, "Slims"), and are also longer than normal "king-sized" cigarettes (which are 85 mm (3.3 in)), sold only in longer 100 and 120 mm (3.9 and 4.7 in) lengths, to give the cigarettes a more "elegant" appearance and ostensibly to reduce the amount of smoke they produce. They are also sold in "Superslims", "Light," (now called Gold), and "Ultra-light," (now called Silver) varieties. All packings are available in menthol and non-menthol. The original packaging was designed by Walter Landor, and was white with colored stripes running lengthwise along the left side. In 2016, the package design was updated to replace the stripes with a more floral, mottled appearance."

There was also the Virginia Slims Tennis Circuit, from 1970 - 1995, IIRC.

Why do Death Stars, Star Destroyers, TIE fighters, etc. always seem to completely disintegrate into nothing but particles when they are destroyed?

Father Dowling Mysteries score reviews? Really? Did a world leader finally "push the button", and Boggan wanted to be certain "everything" had been reviewed before the end of the world?

Did you know that Vinny Testaverde once starred as a mobster in an episode of Father Dowling Mysteries?

A real "stretch" right?

He was also in The Fugitive movie playing the "one armed man" with Ford wasn't he?

And a hellava arm he had too I'll tell ya.

Could someone please provide a list of FSM's most easily-triggered SJWs?

Have it, can't post it.
But to say this in the form of a question--if I did, wouldn't there would be an outcry and another "the people have spoken" result?

Why do I always pick the shopping cart with the one wheel out of four that wants to go around in circles?

Well, I would raise my hand as one of the most easily triggered along with a few other women and quite a few men at FSM. The Woke and SJW put downs are offensive to some of us.

Don't know how to answer Octoberman's question. Not sure I understand it. However, Ock, I do know that I have always thought of you as one of the nicest gentlemen on this board, and now I fear that in the last year or so, you are being lured to the "Dark side." Hope you will say in Rey and Luke Skywalker's light. smile

That's because it's a pejorative term. Octoberman knows BS when he smells it.

But don't you admire the courage of shoppers who keep the cart that has one wheel that goes "Ker-thump...Ker-thump" rather than exchanging it for another?

That's because it's a pejorative term.

I disagree. So many horrible wrongs have been rectified by certain SJWs.
