Jim, listen (sits him down). Now, since you've been away, things have changed mate.
Man City are no longer thread favourites.
In fact, while you were gone, they've become the Arch Enemy. The Lex Luthor of the Prem.
They stand in the way of Liverpool and...Their. ..Destiny!!!

I will support Spurs and 'Pool like mad in their semis, but if they both get through to the final, shouldn't all us neutrals support the underdog? big grin

Did anyone else laugh when the commentator for the City-Spurs match declared Raheem Sterling a "world class" player?

I'm betting you boys just nodded studiously, with hands clasped together in Premiership prayer, hoping that the Powder Blues would just get through to the Semis. wink

Which channel were you watching Jim?

For the record, we don't get Champions League on terrestrial TV anymore. We don't even get highlights. If you want to watch the match, you have to sign up to BT Sport.

I'm guessing your channel was ESPN, something like that? Who was the commentator?

By the way, as I said earlier in the thread, I didn't want this result, because City will now be free to focus on the league. I'd much rather they be fighting on two fronts. I don't want City winning the title again. So it's tougher for Liverpool to win it now.

I just caught a since-taken-down highlight thing on YouTube, but it was some English dude with a Mancunian accent, so it was probably the City "color" commentator.

Thanks, Bill. I missed me, too.

Had lunch at a German restaurant today. I should have stuck around drinking even more Hofbräu Original beer. The restaurant had Sky News via NBC or some such channel.

Hopefully you can see this in the US and it's not geo-blocked.

Can't see those in Canadia but i managed to find highlights elsewhere, just missing the late disallowed Citeh goal.

Jim, did you end up buying Bolton then? Or is that disreputable scrote Bassini buying us?

”Bassini told Telegraph Sport he will become the new owner of the crisis club subject to English Football League approval.

“A deal has been concluded,” he said.”

Bassini has been declared bankrupt twice & served a three year EFL ban in 2013.

He told Talksport recently:

“I was never a rogue chairman, or owner. At Watford, I used to go down to the training ground every day to see what was going on and see the players - I wasn’t so interested in the monetary things. I had a phone call from John Eustace the other day and he said I was the best, most fun owner they had.

“I’m not trying to blow my own trumpet, football is a serious business. But people in football should say it as it is rather than trying to run people down. It’s very egotistical.l I don’t do interviews but I think Bolton fans deserve more and need to feel safe. They can feel safe with me.”

xebec, old sport! Heard you had a brain thing. Hopefully you retained the memory of giving A View to a Kill a 7/10.

I'm not buying Bolton, but I did purchase The Young Dentonians (formally the Old Dentonians 1876). I'm a ton more fun than that Watford fellow.

Sorry, litefoot, but those videos won't play in Super Bowl Land. frown

Yah, still have a pretty bad headache that's never left. Bolton doesn't help me. Glad you bought Young Dentonians, times were looking hard for them. I'm sure you'll provide free jumbo hotdogs and Ameri-pops at their first home game next season.

June 2012 - 13 months after he bought the club, Bassini sold Watford Football Club.

November 2012 - it was announced the $1.5 million Bassini owed Watford for 'cash advances' was unlikely to be repaid.

March 2013 - an independent disciplinary commission found Bassini guilty of misconduct and dishonesty over financial dealings on behalf of Watford and banned him from being involved in a position of authority with any Football League club for three years. The commission found he had been "dishonest in his dealings with the league and with his fellow directors" and "practised secrecy and deception" when he told neither the league nor the other members of the Watford board about his secret forward financing arrangements.

Following Watford's defeat to Crystal Palace in the 2013 Championship play-off final, Bassini sent a series of gloating texts to local newspaper Watford Observer, reveling in his joy at their loss. After the paper published details of his texts, Bassini made a number of legal threats via his Twitter account, none of which ever materialised.

July 2013 - Bassini added to his list of business failures when the High Court ordered his company Watford Leisure Limited be placed in liquidation.

March 2014 - Bassini lost a High Court battle against former Watford FC directors who claimed they were owed more than £3.5 million by Bassini. He was ordered to pay the sums of £3.5 million and £135,000 (plus an additional £568,000 in interest and £150k in costs); a total of £4,353,000. He has been told that he cannot appeal.

During the trial, he was described as 'evasive' and a maker of 'empty threats', and the court heard Bassini had made numerous accusations of conspiracies against him without providing any evidence.

June 2014 - Bassini was made bankrupt for the second time. The bankruptcy order was made after Bassini failed to pay the sum of £37,500. During the hearing Bassini claimed not to own any property despite receiving over £1.5 million in cash advances from Watford during his tenure.

Bolton are fucked again, lumbered with another classless, thieving fuck.

Can't see the league approving the sale, Xebec.

Mr Marshall in the football thread!!!

Waiting for Thor's comments.

Just found the clip once again. The commentator was a Scot, former Manchester United jackass Darren Fletcher.

He does work for BT Sport, so he would have been working on the TV commentary. The video you saw was probably someone recording it from the channel, uploading it to YouTube and it getting blocked.

Jim, try adding a VPN to your browser. It would enable you to watch those videos above. Been a while since I used one so I'm out of the loop - does anyone know what's most popular these days?
