So, the previous episode finished with an execution that seemed tacked-on and perfunctory: the execution of royal first retainer to Dragon Queen Daenerys, Missandei. Though, as it turns out, the whole series of scenes including Missandei and Grey Worm that seemed useless and perfunctory in these recent seasons aren't as trivial now, are they? I'd thought that Varys' execution by Daenerys, for communicating his doubts about Daenerys' sanity, was rushed with too little context; and so, no doubt, it will continue to seem until next week's Wrap-Up, Part 2. About young Martha, Varys' young spy in the Dragonstone kitchen, and her mission for Varys into the King's Landing maelstrom, I haven't a clue. Varys confirms with Jon Snow his preference for future ruler; Tyrion tries to manage the grief-stricken Dragon Queen's anger and rage on the subject of Jon's parentage and all the information leakage that has gone on between our protagonists. The Varys killing, with Grey Worm leading the goon squad into a dark grotto where Daenerys, Jon, Tyrion (and Drogon, the dragon.) await, was an appropriate death for a character who, if not stalwart, was constant in his rather sludgy kind of heroism. Nice touch with Tyrion confessing that he'd informed on Varys, just before the end. I feel strongly that Tyrion's informing/betrayal of Varys's suspicions will have a great bearing on next week's ultimate conclusion, though I can't say how. How will it factor into the other complications forced on Tyrion this week? It took near four seasons, Tyrion, but you're finally the most relevant character on the show again. Congratulations! Daenerys tries to kindle the flame of physical love with Jon, to assuage her grief. No go. Jon's not riding that particular train anymore, it seems. "Alright then. Let it be fear." declares the Dragon Queen. Man, Jon Snow, you picked a decidedly wretched time to fling the ashes from the coffee can on this particular woman, dude. There will be hell to pay. Going to have to churn this review out bit-by-bit. Busy week. More later...

Good review Born. Weird how some people are moaning about last series. Its still best thing ever for me, in a different way, up with sopranos and breaking bad.

You should be watching it coz its so good kev. The music is decent/competent. Mostly. In fairness last episode was good. Hes very consummate with his work for cello - not just in main theme but last ep he used a 2-note cello motif for the tension before the battle - was very impressive.

I once again garbled crucial details on this last episode, “The Bells” that, after a second viewing, I’ll have to set straight. Holy jeez, though, there’s so much long, long-awaited action going on, it’ll take a day-or-two more for me to sort through all the implications for the finale. I will say this: hurrah at the Luck of the Lannisters finally drying up (one exception, of course.), and all that action with Arya in the midst of the King’s Landing massacre will have a huge bearing on how things play out come Sunday night. Hope everyone else is enjoying it as much as I.

I am enjoying it with all my friends and co-workers. The biggest complaint I guess is the feeling that they didn't spend enough time developing the madness of what used to be our favorite dragon queen. But it was inevitable and for the story to play out, based on everything that has gone on before, it had to happen. Rushed? Probably. Poor or downward spiral of a show? Hardly. And the penultimate episode was as dark as anything that has gone on before, given that our Queen, who we had been rooting on for so long until we found out Jon's heritage at the end of last year, just "went south" in a savage rampage not being expected by anyone.

Do the steps, children, with Brandon Stark and Daenerys' dragons, and you will see that the Battle of Winterfell is far from a lost cause...for the human side, that is. Oh they will win no doubt. But afterwards....????? Prediction: Danny becomes Queen but turns dictatorial a la Napoleon declaring.himself Emperor. All her friends desert her. So it goes..... I am The PONER

In the last episode The Hound tells Sense she could have avoided her suffering if she " had come with me when you had the chance". Clegane left King's Landing during the battle with Stannis. Did he try to take Sands with him? Don't recall.

So it comes down to Targaryen vs Starks..specifically Danny vs. Sansa. Danny will no doubt want to punish or kill Sands testing Jon's loyalty . Of course he will choose family which leaves At ya or Sansa on the throne. How will THEY rule ? They.both are damaged and/ or vengeful. ?????

Watching the dragon frying the city I couldn't help but think of the horrible firebombing of Dresden. An unnecessary and criminal act that killed tens of thousands of children.
