He must have been a part of several great Liverpool teams.

Sad news. He was one of the best keepers I've seen in my time. Amazing success at Liverpool.

That '84 UEFA Cup Final though, was it not Tony Parks as Spurs keeper by then?

Move ahead to the 0:34 mark for the start of the highlights.

Watching that, I'd forgotten how good he really was (and I was there, watching live, during his glory days, including our first European Cup Final win in 1977 in Rome, which was my 12th Birthday present off my older brother).

Loved that impressive first save, when Clemence just goes forward and stifles the attacker. Based on these brief highlights, Clemence looked as though he would “leave” a limb of his “behind” while going off in the opposite direction, but it was just enough to deflect the ball away from goal. His save on that wicked free kick was nothing short of brilliant.

He shared the england slot for many years with Peter shilton. God knows how many caps either wudve got if the other wasnt about. Beckham n rooney wudnt have had a sniff.

I’ll have to put myself on a “1970s Football Crash Course” to get a “feel” for the best teams, the nearly-great teams—they’re even more interesting—and the era in general.

Well, leeds were the team at the beginning of 70s.
Arsenal won the league in 71 and were popping up in cups altho west ham beat them 79-80 final. (And we won 75 cup too).
Derby under clough made a mark and then clough went to forest n they did well.
By the end of 70s liverpool were on the way to starting their dominance which went into the 80s.
Mankscum was nowhere, altho they did have Best n Charlton at the beginning of 70s playing for them.

It's funny watching the old football clips, with constantly muddy pitches and real men dishing out and receiving 'proper' fouls and tackles.
The prancing balerinas of today wouldn't have lasted 2 seconds.

On the George Best highlights I posted last year, Best shrugged off a vicious attempted takedown that Every. Single. Player. today would take, proceed to roll over clutching his ankle in “pain” and subsequently “earn” a penalty for it. Not in the 1960s (or ‘70s)!

I admire how those guys would just ignore a tackle like a Last Child post and then blast the ball into goal.

Spain 6-0 Germany.

Admittedly it's only a Nations League game, but still... work for Germany to do.

I don't begrudge the Scots their moment in qualifying for a major tournament for the first time in a 100 years, but it's a farce how they got there. They only got into those play offs by virtue of winning their Nations League Group last year, which had the powerhouses of Albania and Israel. They were nowhere near qualifying from their actual euro qualifying group, and apparently if they had won tonight that would have also guaranteed them a play off for the next World Cup! They should scrap that Nations league and revert back to only the qualifiers.
