After a promising start ( the first few episodes were IMO the best I've seen from this series in a few years ), again the show has bottomed out with this past week's truly awful episode.

Of course it was the terrifying twosome of writer Scott Gimple and director Greg Nicotero we can blame. It was one of those "important" episodes TWD always airs when a character is about to depart. either we see numerous flashbacks from their life, or, like this train wreck, there are fantasy/dream/ sequences non stop. This wasn't as cringe inducing as the episode focused on Carl's death which was maybe the most hilariously bad episode ever, but it was bad nonetheless. All these "you have to wake up" and "gotta find my family" moments didn't work at all. TWD is best when it is fast paced pulpy gory horror with an occasional sly grin, but it sucks hard when it tries to be meaningful. Again...they've completely botched the departure of a major character...only, hey, he's not really leaving The Walking Dead after all.

And oh good Lord...the peek into the future with Judith holding a pistol almost as tall as her? Come on, that was ridiculous, the kick from that gun probably would have knocked her off her feet big grin

But, Carol as a long haired warrior goddess? I'm game. Eugene actually killing walkers like a boss? Now - I can buy the dead coming back to life, but Eugene kicking ass? Nah razz

And FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY IN THIS WORLD, when will they kill off Negan? He's the single worst character on this show - yes, worse than Eugene, worse than the Governor - a good actor trapped in a horribly written role, and they need to put us out of that misery.

I was back on board with the Dead as this season started , but they're back to their old BS again frown

That's interesting, because I feel the exact opposite. If I want schlocky zombie shenanigans, I'll watch Z NATION or some such thing. The thing that sets TWD apart from all the others is the 'meaningful' stuff -- the believable characters, the realistic setting, the inter-personal drama. That makes the horror elements all the more effective.

I feel a lot of the criticism is levelled at a thing the show isn't, or was never supposed to be.

I also like the direction the show is going. Moving years ahead we don't have to mourn Rick. I love the new "Grimes" character. Made me laugh out loud. My problem is the show too often drifts into good vs evil and then we decide who is really evil. The characters and plot gets bogged down. The walkers seem to be adapting. Hopefully we will see in the last three episodes where the show is going.

"...
THE WALKING DEAD---the last episode drew 4.79 million viewers which is the lowest in series history. Season 9 is averaging 5.25 million viewers per episode which is 33% below Season 8.
Also, showrunner Angela Kang said she hopes Maggie (Lauren Cohan) will return for Season 10, "We will hopefully come back to Maggie's story in Season 10. Lauren and I have been texting about some things, and we're hopefully gonna schedule a conversation, but Georgie's group is definitely out there in world doing some stuff, and I have some notion of what they're up to. They may also be part of the universe in general. That's really up to Scott [Gimple], but we'll see how it all plays out."

Omg, whispering, talking, communicating zombies that suddenly stop moving like a zombie and attack like a ninja???

And the cell door is left open for the inevitable escape of negan.

Utter bollocks.

Cant wait for dragons audience figures!

Actually, this is explained at the end of the episode, in case you didn't catch it -- apparently a group of humans wear "zombie masks".

They did that in SHAUN OF THE DEAD. But it was funny then.
Who's laughing now!

We don't know yet, but I'm guessing there's a new group of 'bad people' who want to control the "proper" zombie masses to behave at their behest, as in the way the controlled the herd behaviour. Time will tell. Certainly an interesting idea, I thought, and a good way to take the zombie threat further.

", the Season 9 midseason final episode drew a series low 5.1 million viewers which was down 35% from Season 8's midseason finale."

It aint just me then!

I wasn't thrilled with some of the eps, but I think it was better than last year. I'll keep hanging in there.

Whats next Negan finds his baseball bat and clubs a big star to death - all for karls idealistic bollocks?

Or negan is a broken man and lets himself back into his cell? Not likely.

Well, I agree there, Bill. They really need to end the Negan storyline in a way that feels justified to the audience. You can only stretch out our moral compass for so long. I haven't read the comics, so I don't know what Kirkman has planned for that character.

So an 8 year old girl holding a magnum bigger than her shoots negan off a harley from a hundred yards without being blown off her feet.
I can just see Negan picking flowers soon.

Oh, I hope Negan doesn't end up picking flowers. I want him dead.

As usual, the new start has some interesting story lines and some boring filler. (And I want Negan dead.)

Bill, I have forgotten why Maggie left. Why did she leave and where was she going?

I'm concerned we are losing all significant leaders. Rick is gone as well as Maggie. I read that Michonne will soon leave. (Will she take Rick's daughter with her?)

Seems like the only leaders left are "reluctant" Daryl and maybe Carol.
