so I bought her something containing carats instead

Oh my, MusicMad, those are the best gifts ever. wink I love things that contain carats, although my husband clutches his heart whenever I mention that we've been married over 40 years, so I should probably get a new 4 carat diamond. (Won't happen. Too pricey.) I am getting old too, but I still love opening gifts.

leagolfer, you give some nice, personal gifts.

Paul, I have twin grown-up daughters, and I too pick their gifts and put hubby's name on their gifts. He thinks I'm better at picking out clothes for them, but he does like to buy them items that have Washington State University logos on them. All three of them attended that college.

Paul, those candies looked yummy.

After Thanksgiving, I'll put a sign out in front of my house that says, "Dear Santa, I Want it ALL!"

Henry, your gifts to your folks are very generous. Hope you get your wish list.

I saw a sign in the store today that said, "Dear Santa, I've been very good for the last week or so. Just focus on that. XOXO"

Thanks joan! This is a good thread btw!smile

So, what are YOU asking Santa for Christmas the year?

A chainsaw.

We recently moved to the mountains and have some large pieces of timber on our property that I need to cut down to a reasonable size so I can chop them up for firewood with my axe. smile

Josh, have you permanently left San Diego? (I thought you were a librarian in that city.) Hope Santa gives you a chain saw.

Wow, that is a gorgeous picture and lovely area. Maybe all of us FSMers ought to do our vacations at your house. (Just kidding.) I hope you and your family enjoy all of that area.

I' m more in rituals on the Christmas days, than in giving or wishing gifts.
Since I don' t like beeing with my family, I enjoy the little rituals with my best friends.

Since 2007 Jacy and me visit my first dog Sam every late noon on 24th.
He left in summer 2007 and I got his ash on a little burial ground for animals near us in our beautiful nature. We bring him three roses with a little green and a little candle.
Then Jacy and me went for a long walk around the ground, enjoying the sunset and then seeing
all the lights from the far away houses, knowing children will now packing out their gifts.

Over the years the energy on the burial ground changed, getting to full and I took Sam back home,
scattering his ash under a very large old beech in a very peaceful little beech wood just a kilometer away from our house.
Now Jacy and me visit Sam and the old beech, enjoying sitting under it and listening to the silence and the creek floating beneath it.

Every eve of 25th I' m talking to my penfriend in Berlin on the phone for a couple of hours.
We met 23 years ago in a Starsky & Hutch letterzine and we still be friends.

... but this year I' m looking real forward to our " Weihnachts Wichteln " ( Secret Santa ) in our little
creative forum. I talked aboout it last year in one of the christmas threads.
It was so much fun, ' cause all gifts suppose to me handmade, ' cause we' re a creative forum and getting a handmade gift, which is made for you, I think, that' s really a nice one. smile
I was so lucky, I got these beautiful legwarmers, which was on first on my Wichtel list.

... and theese were my gifts, which I' m very proud of and which were so much fun to do. smile

This blanket I' ve woven for the dog of my " Wichtel " . He gets scary sometimes, so he can get under the blanket for shelter.

This giant bolster was for my Wichtel, the colors are her favorit to fit in her living room.

This little bolster was for our forum' s chief as a surprise.

These two were for two of my best friends.

... and these two little pouches were for another friend and as a surprise to another member of the forum, who missed the
" wichteln " .

greetings
Wolfssohn

Wolfssohn, thanks for your stories and your pictures. Your story of Sam makes me tear up a bit. Love dogs. Also, giving and receiving creative "hand-made" gifts is a wonderful idea. I think making gifts for others is the best idea for gift giving. I treasure my few hand-made gifts.
Have a wonderful Christmas with your friends.

OK, Joan. I couldn't wait until Christmas and bought myself my first coffee maker. A Keurig complete with coffee mug with my initial on it.

Now I sit in my apartment sipping coffee while listening to music. I have become my father. Ugh.

Yeah for Adam. Glad you treated yourself. I love my Keurig. Best prices for the Keurig pods for us are at Costco. Enjoy. (And don’t think I’ve forgotten your December 6th surprise. It is hard waiting to see what you will do.smile)

I’ll share a story about my husband’s favorite gift. I few years ago I had an accident and could only use one arm for several months. Using the one good arm so much caused shoulder issues in my good arm. We have always shared the house work, cooking and clean up. I couldn’t do any of it, so hubby did it all without complaint. (Trying to blow my hair dry was a bit of a disaster, but I didn’t complain.) For Christmas, I went to a creative jeweler in town and had him make my husband a very unique ring. I put the ring in a large box that contained slow cooker. When he looked at the cooker, he wasn’t really thrilled. He opened it up and saw the small box and a letter to him. I had written a long poem in rhyming couplets thanking him for taking over all my jobs and for taking such good care of me. He read the poem out loud to our daughters and other relatives and teared up a bit. He liked the ring, but he has kept the poem and said it was the best gift ever. (Hey, he got kind of even with me a month ago when he strained his back and was down flat for a while. I took over and was glad to pay him back a bit.)

Sometimes gifts that don’t cost more than the price of a single piece of paper are the BEST gifts.

I'm all set to post it Friday night. This will be my biggest giveaway ever to celebrate my tenth year. I think everyone who participates will enjoy it. Until then.....smile

Torture time is over. Adam B. wins here at FSM for his generous and selfless giving to our members!!

My husband wanted to trade in his older car and take my rather small 2018 SUV. I had always wished I had a bigger SUV. We get snow here. Also, I was absolutely bereft when I discovered that in the past 5 or so years new cars came without CD players. I have hundreds of film scores and used to listen to them mostly in my car. So we looked at various 2020 SUVs, and I would jokingly say, "Where is the CD player?" The sales people just looked sadly at me. The last place we looked, I said it to the salesman, and he said, "Right here. All of our cars have CD players." I wept and ordered a new SUV from him for my Christmas present. I'll drive it forever!!

Still time to post your Christmas wishes or favorite gift.

Treat yourself to a sweet act of giving. A family left out a basket of drinks and snacks with a sign for postal workers and Amazon delivery workers telling them to help themselves to drinks and snacks and thanking them for their work. The youtube below shows a cute reaction from a Amazon delivery man.

This is a kind gesture.

Dude!
Sitting and sipping coffee while listening to music is one of the greatest things in the world.
It cannot be overestimated or under-enjoyed.
Bask in it!

Oh, I shall! I've discovered the pleasure of dipping refrigerated Little Debbie Nutty Bars into hot coffee. When you bite into the bar the rush of sweetened peanut butter and chocolate flows over the tongue. Woo-Hoo!
