Direct your inquiries to The Ubiquitous Bob. He knows everything. And he's still alive. (And the suspense is killing me.)

Thanks, Cat. I may have to re-post, only I had tweaked an earlier draft of my "review" and it just won't be the same. I was kind of hoping Bill Smith could find it, but he doesn't seem to be in the building....

Ron...Was just reading the headlines over at Broadway.com and here's all I could come up with: "Wicked," the Stephen Schwartz musical based on Gregory Maguire's book of the same name, will have its world premiere at San Francisco's Curran Theater, not the Orpheum Theater as previously announced. The musical, starring Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth as Galinda, will begin its four-week tryout the week of April 14, 2003, according to a production spokesperson. Maguire's "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" takes place in the land of Oz and centers on a time when the infamous witch was just a little green-skinned girl named Elphaba. The musical features music and lyrics by Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman (one of the creative forces behind television's "My So-Called Life" and "Once and Again." Expect "Wicked," directed by Joe Mantello, to hit Broadway in the fall of 2003. So....How did it do out there, Ron? It sounds delightful!

Broadway.com's announcement was a bit off -- but probably accurate at the time. Previews started May 28 at the Curran. I saw it on the 31st. On Tuesday night (June 10) it will have its "Press Performance" after which reviews should be available on the internet. If things go well (and it seems the show is getting standing O's in each preview performance)the show opens Oct. 31st on Broadway. I think they'll take a break in July and spend August through October fine-tuning it -- and getting all the stand-ins readied (which they aren't currently).

That said, does anyone but me find it distressing that this thread -- directly addressed to Bill Smith, our moderator -- has been seemingly overlooked by him? Yes, Ron, I find it distressing, especially since your thread was a direct question to Bill. I've looked through the archives myself, and your initial post is nowhere to be found. What gives, Mr. Smith? Where'd it go, and why? Your "Wicked" II post is still there, Ron, and I assure you, due to your raving review, I will be most anxious to get tickets once it comes to the Big Apple this fall! I hadn't been to a Broadway show in several years, until recently, when I took my daughter in to see one of the final performances of Les Miserables. We enjoyed it so much, and our whole day in New York together, that we decided to treat ourselves to these outings on a more regular basis (when the pocketbook allows!). I have already discussed your review of "Wicked" with her, and she's looking foward to seeing it as much as I am. CAT

"Wicked" was still on Broadway, pre-pandemic. MAJOR HIT as I knew it must be.
