she's a Colombian who stole a role away from a Puerto Rican actress but still playing the victim. By her own logic shes a racist and appropriating another ethnicity.

She is Colombian who was born in New Jersey which makes her American. From whom did Rachel steal the part of Snow White?

She played a Puerto Rican in West Side Story. Now she feels entitled to play a Europe girl. Imagine if a non-Columbian got a Columbian role over her?

Playing a "Europe girl?" What? Note that there are people of various colors in Europe.

This is weird. She didn't steal anything! That doesn't make sense. Puerto Rican actresses could have or may have tried out for West Side Story. She tried out and Spielberg chose her because of her gorgeous singing and talent. Blame HIM for not picking an actress from Puerto Rico. She didn't appropriate another ethnicity. I doubt that she is a racist. However, when she was caste, she really did get hammered by many who thought Snow White needed to be white. Movies were basically white when Disney's cartoon was made and for many decades after the 30's. Times change for some of us in this current century.

Much of this SNOW WHITE remake was reshot wen preview audiences protested its original use of multi-racial actors to play the dwarfs. Disney has also been challenged by Ms. Ziegler, herself, who kept making inflammatory comments to the press.

Oh no, multi racial dwarves? Horrors! But I'm sure those audiences were not racist...yeah right.

Ziegler should have kept her comments to herself. She did hurt the movie with her I-am-not-a-helpless female Snow White comments. But I am looking forward to this movie. She was so very good in West Side Story. Those who already hate this movie without seeing it can avoid it.

I'd like to go back to the days where you tried to cast an actor or actress that fit the role and/or brought something to it, making it memorable.

I'd like to have male characters be male, female characters be female, and not swap skin colors for the latest "everybody's racist but me" fad.

Justin, I would also want any actors cast who can make parts memorable. If those actors chosen are people of color and make those roles memorable, I assume you would be happy. For instance, Denzel Washington's Macbeth is pretty awesome.

A mediocre actress opens her big gob every chance she gets, insults her fellow actor, literally calls the Prince a grape-ist and then she is surprised by the blowback. Weird, weird.

This has nothing to do with gender or color or politics. It has to do with the so-called actress being a massive knucklehead, Madam.

No, shoving wokeness, social justice, agendas, etc., down our throats under the guise of any pretense for a film, is not acceptable, regardless of the outcome. The Nazi's made films, too.

If I want to see a Charlie's Angels film, I expect the leads to be women, not three dudes in dresses identifying as women and one non binary idiot, no matter how well acted.

Reality and legitimacy need to prevail still.

She took the role and played an ethnicity she isn’t. By their own rules that’s appropriation. She could have said give it to an actual Puerto Rican. Her morality ends when it gets in the way of making a buck. Same with Disney. She got hammered for crapping on a classic beloved pioneering film. Only in her warped mind Snow White had no agency. She had a lot actually.

Yeah, for years and years they have hammered us with one piece of idiocy after another and expect us all to buy it, but when we hold them to it, it's always, "What I meant to say was", "I misspoke", "That's not what I rally meant", and other approaches including cries of racism and insults. She's an American? Yes! Don't say. We've (the general "we") been saying that for a long time, but it was always "Italian-American" this and "African-American" this, like, for example, all dark skinned people come from Africa and that al dark-skinned people in Africa are one homogenous identical people. How insulting and racist is that shit. It was always stupid crap meant to divide fellow Americans and create segregated groups that can be said to targeted by another for this and that reason.

Oh please. She was given her role by Spielberg. She tried out for it and HE picked her. Spielberg wanted a Latino or Hispanic woman, and he got one. Why would she give away such an opportunity?

Don't forget to pick on Ariana DeBose who won the Oscar for West Side Story. Spielberg also picked her, however, she is part African American, not pure Puerto Rican. Yikes!

Justin, shoving social justice upon us seems like a good idea. Not having social justice is unacceptable. We need justice, but you can whine away and call it wokeness.

I don't want us to see Denzel play Lincoln. He was a real person and white, not fictional. I don't want to see a woman play James 007 Bond, but would it be so bad if Idris becomes Bond if he is good in the role? With opportunities finally opening for minorities, fictional characters could be played by someone of color. But keep up your hissy fits because movies in this last decade are not always done by white actors.

Henry Brandon played Scarface, the Native American chief, in The Searchers. He was white. We should all thank Costner for Dances With Wolves where he used real Native Americans. Did that ruffle some of your feathers?

Michael Connelly wrote the Bosch and Lincoln Lawyer novels. Yep, they were white. Now Manuel Garcia Rulfo has played the Lincoln Lawyer for 3 seasons, and he is great. Connelly is a producer of that series, so I guess he hasn't had a fit about this lawyer, who is fictional, being Latino.

"We need justice, but you can whine away and call it wokeness."

Social justice and justice are not the same thing. Trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and lecturing me about it, doesn't make you right.

"I don't want us to see Denzel play Lincoln. He was a real person and white, not fictional. I don't want to see a woman play James 007 Bond, but would it be so bad if Idris becomes Bond if he is good in the role?"

007 is not any one single person, there is no reason why he can't be different each time, and so he has. Your logic makes no sense based upon well over a dozen Bond films. What would be unacceptable is if they suddenly change a James Bond, let's make up a name and say 007's real name is John Smith, and suddenly the same guy is white and then suddenly black. Or the other way around. Or tall and suddenly a dwarf.

"With opportunities finally opening for minorities, fictional characters could be played by someone of color."

Opportunities have always been around. Maybe some of you forget Hollywood, from actors and composers, have come from various countries. They just assumed stage names.

"Henry Brandon played Scarface, the Native American chief, in The Searchers. He was white. We should all thank Costner for Dances With Wolves where he used real Native Americans. Did that ruffle some of your feathers?"

You're deciding to willfully not pay attention at this point.

I am paying attention, but YOU make no sense at all. You are just trying to support your values with nonsense, not logic, but argue away.

We go to films to be told a good story, not to be preached to. The only message that should be is, be good to each other, treat others kindly.

Entertainment is an absolute disaster right now due to activists flooding every aspect.
Thankfully the 'flush' is almost over.
Thankful most humans seem to agree as project after project tanks, or is cancelled.

Be diverse, great, tell your story well, and stop the closet racism against "The Patriachy". Villanizing any group of people to make your own narcissistic hypocrisy look better is wrong on every side.

Hollywood was built to entertain, actors to read other people's words and not scold the population to 'do better', because all white people automatically hate minorities, minorities automatically despise white privilege, ad nauseum et infinitum.

So sick of all this, culture turning us against each other.

Opportunities were always around? For whom? For minorities? No, not for decades. Blacks could play slaves and butlers. With time and Sidney Poiter, new opportunities opened. Now we have more opportunities.

Yes, many composers came from Europe. Was Waxman black or Rosza? However, at least we do have new minority composers now.

With respect and deference, who made you the arbiter of justice, Madam?

Gee AC, I am a bit surprised by your comments. I don't see where I should have bothered you. I am not the arbiter of
justice, but I think I know justice when I see it, and I think you also recognize decency and justice.

GoblinScore, I agree with a lot of what you wrote. Movies that have messages of kindness are great. On the other hand, I think sometimes we do need to be enlightened about certain issues which might seem preachy but still very important.

When AIDS became an issue, movies like The Normal Heart gave us new insights into this epidemic and into the need for help. Movies like the old Gentleman's Agreement to Schindler's List to The Zone of Interest certainly opened our eyes to anti-Semitism which hasn't disappeared. Bombshell educated us about work-place sexism. Movies and a lot of television shows are educating us about sex trafficking and the opioid addictions. We've certainly seen movies about racism. I am okay being aware of and preached to about those vile issues.

One the other hand, I'm looking forward to Gladiator II. I am hoping it will be just a good, entertaining story. I think movies can entertain us with great narrations and some can entertain and enlighten us about serious issues.

I have been silent for quite a while, but here is what is really bothering me. dragon53 gives us great information about movies, and in a short time, the constant NEGATIVITY from a few members bombards dragon's threads. It would be nice to read something positive now and then about "some" of the offerings, not all of them, but some.

"Hey, Sean, why DO you attempt to throw your proverbial hat into any ring, especially this one, with an impending padlock?"

"Gee, i dunno, lonely, starved for conversation....or just a moron?"

"Yeah, likely the latter, so here's a big, steaming, piping hot bowl of STFU with extra cheese, as you like it"

"Aw, thanks.....what we were all on about again? The cheese took my mind away from endless blathering....think I'll finesse the delicious cheese with a tasty Elmer Bernstein score".

Heavy Metal (uh oh, containing my FAVORITE Strong Female Character who doesn't spend her run time disembowling or castration every make lead, especially whites!), helps this delicious cheese bowl, digest.

Goodbye ,Cruel World, I'm leaving you today.....
