The girl reminds me a little of Kristen Johnston. When the lucky bastard shouts "Don't laugh at me," I couldn't help thinking, Charlie X!!!
It's probably too late, but I wonder if you can still change the big revenge climax to something OTHER than gun violence. He doesn't use an assault rifle, at least, does he?
Perhaps you could go another way and have him turn people into lizards, wipe away pretty girls' faces, perform impossible card tricks, stuff like that? I know JUST the music you could use . . .
Seriously, though, would it pay to reconsider the ending and turn it into a quick, clever satire on grandiose nerd-revenge sequences like the end of "Carrie," etc? You only need to pack it with enough inside-cinema gags and it could work. Just plain violent revenge has been DONE, man. Don't fall into that giant yawning trap.
I'm reminded of a much-anticipated indie film I saw at the Tribeca Film Festival years ago, called "Love Object." It was advertised as a quirky comedy on a sort of racy subject, and it started off rather well. (The director had waited for years to do this, his dream project, although the script itself had a positive reputation among the studio and agency readers, as one of the good ones that deserved a chance.) The early scenes created a believable, sympathetic character and made you feel for his social problem and root for him to succeed in his new relationship, then about halfway through, the plot took a sharp turn into "been there done that" territory. The protagonist turned out to be just another murderous psychotic cliche and the rest of the film was a by-the-numbers bloodbath. The disappointment in the room was palpable. You could feel it, like an enormous sigh emitting from the well-attended screening . . . then people began to file out.
The director and actors appeared for a Q & A at the end, a little embarrassed, but apparently clueless as to what had gone wrong. Tell me, LK . . . what went wrong? Is it too late to avert this kind of disaster?

I'll confess I'm a little disappointed that our Lukas went in this direction. I hope he's just doing what he has to, to get a film career going. I suppose the genres we'd rather see Lukas work on (sci-fi, adventure, spy thriller...) are too expensive for a start-up outfit to mount.
Also, while I'm no expert as to what makes a good commercial property these days, this film raises concerns. It will not attract people who despise porn, and the pro-porn crowd might be repelled by the "porn gives you a horrible experience" storyline.
The story, from what I gather, is like TRON or THE LAST STARFIGHTER, in that an audience member is drawn into the world of his favorite genre. Maybe if you see the whole movie, the analogy goes even further, and the protagonist has a big, triumphant outcome (kills 'em all!). Maybe.

NC-17! I remember that rating.
When I used to work at the local multiplex some lucky usher could make a day's pay just sitting outside (and often peeking inside) the auditorium with the NC-17 movie, making sure no one under 17 was admitted.
That puts our LK in good company, actually: Cronenberg, Andrew Dice Clay, who else?
Originally, "Midnight Cowboy" was rated "X," wasn't it? in more recent years, I believe the MPAA has reconsidered their earlier judgment on that one and made it an "R" instead. Perhaps "Lucky Bastard" will someday undergo a similar reevaluation. After all its awards nominations, perhaps.

Well its not a porn movie. Second and again I just don't get this, people get a "hard on" when it comes to graphic violence, (Walking Dead) but have a problem with this kind of content? I know, same old debate! LOL
All I'm saying is, people who dislike the porn world will avoid this film. And men who see themselves as porn customers might not like the concept, given what happens. And incidentally, since LUCKY BASTARD appears to involve no sex but a vengeful gunman, your (perfectly fine) point about sex-good-violence-bad doesn't seem to be in this film's favor either.
I agree, it's pretty stunning what's happened with violence in film today. There was a time when THE WALKING DEAD would easily have been rated X for violence. It's not just the zombies who get their brains shot out in full close-ups. But now, apparently nothing is too gorey for an R rating. Nothing.

Nope - I despise the "Porn World", but I will happily catch this movie - looking forward to it.
I'm sure a lot Lukas' friends and bboard readers will do the same. How much of the broader public will do so is what I don't know.
