-Jurassic Park: A-

-The Lost World: C+

-Jurassic Park 3: D+

I'm amused that someone liked Lost World more than JP3.

The third movie is just a silly funhouse ride. The Lost World has a girl gymnastics kicking a raptor through a wall.

Yeah, that was silly, but to be fair -- THE LOST WORLD also has one of the most amazing suspense/action setpieces I've ever seen on the screen: the truck-hanging-over-the-cliff scene.

You know. I actually didn't like that scene at all (mostly because the set-up of putting a baby t-rex in the trailer seemed laughably dumb) BUT the music makes up for it. The part where they reach the top of the cliff and are saved is probably the single best tension-release moment John Williams ever put to paper.

No stupider than eating food out a vending machine that hes been rotting in a sweltering jungle for five years. Or Tea Leoni shrieking like a teakettle for 90 minutes straight. Or a kid getting distracted from relaying a life-and-death phone call because he's too busy watching Barney(!) on TV.

Jurassic Park III fucking SUCKS.

JURASSIC PARK is my second favorite movie ever. I also enjoyed the second. But the third one I despise! Where do I start? It's too short, weak plot, bad effects. The only thing I liked about it was the return of Sam Neil. It's because of the third one I have no interest in the fourth. Can't wait to see JURASSIC PARK in Imax 3d however!smile

I don't get why everyone trashes Jurassic Park III but The Lost World: Jurassic Park gets a free pass. When you think about it, The Lost World was everything that is wrong with sequels. Spielberg didn't seem to there as director (since he also had two other films in pre-production and was co-launching DreamWorks on the side) and was clearly there for the paycheck, the plot was nonsensical, the new characters and San Diego subplot felt like an excuse to sell merchandise and the film is just long and boring.

On the other hand, Jurassic Park III goes back to the basics (visitors marooned on an island and forced to fight dinosaurs) and makes for a much tighter film (and besides, what is wrong with having a sequel be shorter than the first installment?).

THE LOST WORLD at least tried new things, like taking dinosaurs off the island. And it had great set pieces like the trailer over the cliff, raptors in long grass, rex in San Diego, the round up scene. The third is just a cheap half assed retread of the first movie.

I don't understand why ANY of them get the rap they do. I love them both, and think they're great movies. There were a couple of unneccesary elements in LOST WORLD and JP3 was a little too short, but both display top quality storytelling with some totally engrossing action setpieces.

JURASSIC PARK 4-EVER!

I thoroughly agree with this statement.

That being said, I still have hopes that this fourth part will be an enjoyable film. I really hope that the writers come up with some interesting and original story ideas and that this new director will bring something new to the table. Please let them not forget that a good Jurassic Park film needs more than just dinosaurs causing mayhem.

I dunno...........

i am a fanatic about dinosaures and ,of course, love the JP movies (to varying degrees),
but they hafta come up with something better than "dinosaurs on the loose chasing and eating stupid people"
JP III had ONE new twist - flying dinosaurs. They have now pretty much covered all the angles.
What's left to do but a rehash?

Let's hope they come up with an original storyline

Beware! Beware the law of the 4th, I say!

No 4th of anything was ever any good!
Crystal Skull, Resurrection, Quest for Peace, Loaf and Death ... beware!

You will all have your hearts broken...

Beware!

Don't forget Jaws the Revenge.

I enjoyed Part III...the non-scientific hokum was no more or less believable than the previous movies...quick pace, occasionally smart, brought in the Aviary from the original book (at last!)...good Dino SmackDowns....perfectly enjoyable fluff. As I've said before, there's still plenty of material in the books to go back to...the first movie did, after all, completely ignore the main plot-point of the book.

JP III is the example I always give of a bad film that is entertaining being preferable to a good film that is boring
check it out!

Universal tweeted - "What do you hope to see in the new sequel?"

Another Sasha "That Was My Boyfriend!" Spielberg cameo?

Or . . . can Shia be in it and get eaten by a T-Rex, please?
