The Horror at 37,000 Feet (1973) 4.5/10 Quite daft TV movie but i liked the cast of Shatner, Paul Winfield, Chuck Connors and Roy Thinnes. A not entirely thought out story about a haunted altar being transported on a plane. I like the look of these old TV movies, so that also got me through. HaHaHa! A real hoot of a film and let's not forget Buddy Ebsen (playing a first class f*#$er!), Russell Johnson, France Nuyen, Lynn Loring, Tammy Grimes...

Under the Tree 8/10 In Hafsteinn Gunnar SigurĂ°sson's domestic black comedy, the tone is set when 30-somethings Atli and Agnes settle down in bed at night without a smile or a word, facing different ways. Atli, unable to sleep, is then caught by his wife preparing to pleasure himself while watching a video of him having sex with a former girlfriend. Thrown out of the house, he goes back to bunk with his parents, still mourning the disappearance of his much-preferred older brother. His parents have other issues, though, in an escalating feud with next door over the shade thrown by a tree in their garden over their younger neighbours' patio. Both strands of story develop in hilarious and frightening ways, involving a tug of war over Atli and Agnes's child (some really good directing of the very little girl, not much more than a toddler), an Ikea car park acting as an idyllic picnic area, a nail gun, a chainsaw and the family pets, culminating in a shocking finale. The characters are well-drawn in just a few scenes, supported by a pulsating post-Morricone score by DanĂel Bjarnason. I don't think I've seen an Icelandic film before, and may have to chase up some more, if this is typical of them.

Crank 2 high voltage Implausible schlock mayhem. Concludes with black gay bikers and bikini clad strippers with machine guns having a shoot out with mexican gangsters. Probably the worst and silliest of Statham action films. 4.5 out of 10.

Bad times at the El Royale 2018 What is it with that old trick of keep showing the same scenes over n over from different characters perspective? Its been done, move on now. I do agree that chris hemsworth delivered quite a creepy narcissistic cult leader but Dakota whatever was weak . It was tedious, disjointed and odd. 5 out of 10.

The Grimm Brothers' SNOW WHITE (1997) - 6/10 A more "realistic" version of the fairy tale than Disney provided, this film deviates from the story in its own peculiar ways. Sigourney Weaver plays the stepmother to Monica Keena's "Lilli" (there's no one named "Snow White" in the movie). Weaver initially tries to connect with her stepdaughter. But after her own child is stillborn, she decides that Lilli has to go, and numerous attempts are made on Lilli's life. Meanwhile, Weaver tries to resurrect the corpse of her child by bathing it in the blood of her husband (Sam Neill). (I didn't see that one coming.) And when a fleeing Lilli comes across seven strange men living in the forest, they can't decide whether to kill her, eat her, or rape her. Despite all these weird goings-on, Weaver delivers a decent performance. The film was originally intended for theatrical release, but after everyone got a look at it, a cable premiere seemed the wiser choice, so it played on Showtime as "Snow White: A Tale of Terror". It turned out fine for Weaver, who received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie.

BATTLESHIP ISLAND 2017 Korean ww2 film about a brutal japanese labour camp - Hashima Island - offshore mining facility. Over-long but you get to recognise the various korean prisoners and the mass breakout at the finale is well-staged. Its says score by Leo Bang but rather weirdly during the escape, a cover version of Ennio's Ecstasy of Gold can be heard - other music parts sounded familiar too. This reusing of known scores in asian films has been a jarring but common practice since 60s n 70s. 7.5 out of 10.

This reusing of known scores in Asian films has been a jarring but common practice since 60s n 70s. Otherwise known as intellectual property theft. If Morricone (or his publishers) got royalties every time one of his tunes was used in a chop-socky film, there'd be many more millionaires in the Italian music business.
