Love the rumour mill. Among the latest are murmurs are Lenny Henry as The Master and talk of a pre-Hartnell regeneration cycle...
Not a chance in hell!
I'm hoping this 'Timeless Child' thing goes somewhere. Preferably to a good place.
And this may not be a popular view here but I would like to see River Song back. Preferably in an episode written by a different scriptwriter. She's kind of taken the place of the Brig in that you want the character to meet every Doctor going forward.
The pacing was very good. Far more serene than you usually get with new Who. Looked glossy. Plot could breathe. No babbled explanations. Didn't see the twist coming. A strong 3/5.
Not convinced that Dhawan makes a good Master, though. Better chance to judge in a few days with Part 2.
Stopped watch Who when Clara left the series. Never really cared for Capaldi, thought he was pretty bad actually. Came back to give lady Who a chance, gave up after three episodes. I heard the New Years Day episode was more of the same. I'm done until they get new show-runners, writers and composers. I absolutely loved the Tennant and Smith series.
After trawling through the end of the episode the end titles was shrunk to the bottom of the screen. If I didn't know about the dedication, I wouldn't know what was on screen. Well done, BBC America, you've outdone yourselves.
Still disappointed. The producers are so pre-occupied with tip-toeing along a particular line that they forgot to double-check the boxes marked "Entertaining" and "Not boring in several places".
On the plus side I thought the production values were nice, and the new Master was pretty good. Knew this guy would do ok after his turn as the bad guy in Iron Fist. There was a reasonable attempt at threat with the creatures.
But the new Doctor still doesn't impress. Irritating in fact. And it all seemed to riff off previous eras of New Doctor Who. Even the wife was guessing that the obscured aliens were Cybermen, remembering the similar idea in Army of Ghosts in the penultimate episode of the second David Tennant series where that's what they turned out to be.
The rumours are there may be some major retconning this year, which was already hinted at with all the Gallifrey stuff. Wish they'd make their minds up whether it's gone, or it's back. And there's speculation that the Hartnell Doctor wasn't the first.
Another OK episode tonight. though perhaps the final speech was too heavy handed.
Let's face it: it's garbage. If I wanted to be preached at I'd go to fucking church.
So true. And elegantly put, if I may say so.
There comes a point where we just have to admit defeat. These comments are on the nose I'm afraid. My sentiments regarding the Classic Series Season 14 on the Tom Baker thread echo what I believe to have been our thoughts when we were told it was coming back in 2005. I mean, it was the BBC not the US tv movie, and so had a right to expect SOMETHING approaching the old show with today's sfx and production values.
Sadly the people in charge of it since then appear to think they're improving on something they thought was actually poor. Many still think the public of today will only respond to some runaround with all the gravitas of cartoon short. The viewing figures are saying otherwise. I think folks are perfectly ready to see something with good storytelling, a fine cast and. It's time to start doing gripping instead of flamboyant. In the UK there are mini series doing very well, while on Netflix and other channels there are fantasies with British casts doing very well too.
But while fans are in charge of Who it ain't happening any time soon. I keep wondering what show these (now) professional fans (every showrunner so far is a fan) were watching back in the day. Because it certainly doesn't seem to be the one we were watching.
